Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in the world. It is one of the large numbers of diseases characterized by the development of abnormal cells that divide uncontrollably and have the ability to infiltrate and destroy normal body tissues. It is estimated by WHO that 80,000 cancer-related deaths in children occur per annum worldwide. Albeit, childhood cancer survival rates are about 80% in high-income countries, they may be as low as 10% in some low-income countries.

The main forms of childhood cancers are leukemia, brain cancers, lymphomas, neuroblastoma and Wilm’s tumour or nephroblastoma.

Signal and his team with the help of ISH Concepts designed an effective media campaign to entreat parents and healthcare givers to start looking out for some of the symptoms of child cancers–which generally show themselves as common health conditions like prolonging; headache, teary eyes, swollen around the head and neck region, fever, among other signs and symptoms.

The Department of Child Health at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) is still imploring for more donations to help in treating the condition

One of the important things needed by the department is blood and immunophenotyping machine for further probe into the condition.

The head of the department, Dr. Awo Renner urges corporate bodies and benevolent individuals to come to their aid.
