TGMA: I’ve petitioned board for inclusion in EP and Afrobeats artiste of the year categories – Olivetheboy
Ghanaian Afrobeats sensation, Joel Ofori Bonsu, known professionally as Olivetheboy has raised concerns about his nominations for the yet-to be held Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
It will be recalled that the ‘Goodsin’ hitmaker, during the nominees announcement on Thursday, March 28, 2024, received three nominations for this year’s awards.
They include; Best new artiste of the year, Most popular song of the year and best Afrobeats song of the year.
However, speaking in an exclusive interview on TV3’s New Day on Wednesday, April 3,2024, the singer cum songwriter asserted that he’s convinced he should have been nominated for two other categories.
He went on to disclosed that his management has presented a petition to the scheme to be considered for the Album/EP of the year and Best Afrobeats artiste of the year categories.
“I think there are these two that I feel like I should have been in. The EP/Album of the year because Goodsin was an EP and Afrobeats artiste of the year. We have actually presented a petition so [ we are on the lookout],” he said.
This comes after the camp of his colleague, Amerado seeked clarification as to why his famous ‘Kweku Ananse’ song did not merit nomination for the most popular song of the year category.
Nevertheless, Robert Klah, the Public Relations Officer for Charterhouse, organisers of the Ghana Music Awards has urged artists who might be worried about their nominations to seek clarification from the scheme.
“If you feel strongly about your petition that you ought to be there, we support you 100%. Reach out to us and let’s make the necessary corrections and clarifications,” he said in an interview on Hitz FM, April 2.
