There’s Doctor on the Mic!

Published

on

The 18th-century German poet, author, and philosopher, Georg von Hardenberg, better known by his pen name Novalis, once said, “Every disease is a musical problem. Its cure, a musical solution. The more rapid and complete the solution, the greater the musical talent of the doctor”.

On one of those hot sunny weekday afternoons when everything that could possibly go wrong had gone wrong and man was neck-deep in one of those extremely bleak states, I met a doctor!

A voice that broke through my deep thoughts and pain instantly injecting a dose of hope, a stint of delight, and the most awe-inspiring interlacing and delivery of words that warmed the heart and calmed the nerves. A voice that made me agree instantly that truly, “without music, life would be a mistake”.

The song that made my day was Okyeame Quame’s Award-winning “Bolgatanga Girl”, but the delivery that ignited everything musical and emotional in me; the voice which offered that rapid and complete the solution to my woes, that genius of musical talent I would find out later was Abiana!

In October 2020, the beautiful, young, vibrant singer and songwriter born Eldah Naa Abiana Dickson, released a totally breathtaking single titled, ‘Adun lei’ which instantly shot her into the world of fame and recognition opening doors of appearances and performance opportunities to her. Notable among these are her awe-inspiring performances at the 2021 President’s Inaugural Dinner and the much talked about performance with the Blacklace Band at the 70th birthday party for Ghana’s First lady, Her Excellency, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo.

Her journey dates a decade and over, having tried to get into a number of music reality TV shows; but not quite getting in. She would, in 2013 join the Afro Harmony Band as a Backing Vocalist and later in 2014, Hy Skuul band as a lead singer before launching her music career as a solo artiste in 2020.

“I can sing in whichever genre I prefer, but what I really love to do…my kind of music, I call it Soul Life…It comes from deep within. From a place of both pleasure and pain. A place of laughter and tears…it comes from deep down my soul” – Abiana.

Unlike many others who have had to do it for years to get the recognition, Abiana in just 6 months managed to catch the attention of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Board earning two solid nominations (Best Female Vocal Performance and Songwriter of the Year) in the 2021 edition of the festival slated for late June 2021.

Abiana, who holds a BSc in Marketing from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) also loves to play the guitar and is signed to the +233-record label with 3 singles, ‘Adunlei’ in October 2020, ‘Amen’ in December 2020, and her latest ‘Bonooni’ released in March 2021 to her credit!

At the just ended 4syte Music Video Awards 2021, Abiana won Best Photography Video for Adun Lei beating 11 others.

Indeed, there is a doctor on the microphone. Say hello to Abiana!

on

Imagine a getaway-drive on a highway in a fully loaded Mercedes-Benz S-Class with next- generation MBUX infotainment system, active ambient lighting, rear seat comfort package, executive seat, with music blazing from a Burmester high-end 4D surround sound system.

This is the experience Trigmatic and Mercedes-Benz Sandton created for guests at Trigmatic’s music showcase on the 21st of January 2022.

Multi award winning Ghanaian singer/songwriter/rapper and composer Trigmatic joined forces with Mercedes-Benz Sandton to host a music showcase for thirty of Africa’s music industry leaders, as well as other music stakeholders. This event forms part of Trigmatic’s pre-release events for his upcoming EP, LOVE FROM JOZI . A seven track EP inspired by the sounds and sights of Johannesburg, South Africa, where the EP was recorded.

The event was held at the plush Mercedes-Benz Sandton retailer, where attendees were treated to some great music off the EP as well as a feel of the luxury and warmth that Mercedes-Benz brings. In attendance were representatives of the Ghana high commission (South Africa), CEO of UMG Sipho Dlamini, Lerato Masepe from Def Jam, Lebo Kgothadi from Universal Music, Siphele Khumalo from Wines, Munya Chanetsa (A&R Sony Music and founder of Moti Africa), Zamani Ndimande (CEO of Bayeni Holdings), and musician Donald Denial, to mention just a few. South Africa’s DJ and Artist Dj Tira couldn’t make it to the exclusive event but sent a heart-warming video wishing Trig well in his music journey. The event was curated by South African actress and model, Angel Pooe.

Thato Tlagae (Media Expert) and Kelvin Mogoane (AMG Product Expert) from Mercedes- Benz Sandton expressed their excitement about the collaboration between the retailer and Trigmatic, and hinted to more of these collaborations in the future.

Trigmatic in his speech encouraged more collaborative moves between corporate bodies and creatives, and more cultural exchanges between African nations. He highlighted the current attention given to African music, and the opportunities Africans stand to gain from endeavours in this direction. He expressed his gratitude towards Mercedes Benz Sandton, other sponsors, Zamani Ndimande, and all who made this a top tier event.

Six of the songs off the EP were played in twelve of the luxury Mercedes-Benz cars beautifully displayed on the retailer’s floor. The tangible excitement of guests increased as they were ushered into the cars which were reverberating with songs on the Burmester high- end 4D surround sound systems. Certainly a “to-die-for” unrivalled experience. The event was also supported by Bayeni holdings, Unique Print Hub, Wa Mo Afrika foundation, Khumsalo Wines, Go&fun drinks, and Matic Multimedia.

The two hour event ended on a smooth note with drinks and nibbles, and most importantly hearts filled with the kind of satisfaction that only the Mercedes-Benz S-Class can bring. The next time you think of buying a car in South Africa, think Mercedes-Benz; think Mercedes- Benz Sandton; and of course a Trigmatic playlist.

Trigmatic’s EP is expected to drop this March with expectations of taking over the continent as always. Don’t forget to check out his first single off the EP, Aduawa, on Apple Music and all other music stores. https://music.apple.com/za/artist/trigmatic/373032557

Hip-hop is one of the most loved musical genres in the world and Ghana is no exception to this rule and as the music keeps evolving, so do the creative artists behind the songs. Dedebah is one of the first names that come to mind when the topic in discussion is “Ghanaian Female Rappers”. Dedebah is a very versatile rapper who does not shy away from any challenge. Her sound has gained massive recognition from top blogs and major industry players including hip-hop heavyweights Sarkodie, Medikal, amongst others.

Dedebah is at the pinnacle of her career where she deems it a necessity to give her fans a full body project instead of the occasional singles. Last year she took to social media to announce her maiden EP dubbed “Bosompemaa”. The anticipation for this project has gone through the roof with fans being eager to get their hands on this EP. The African Rap Diva decided to stop fans from lingering anymore by putting out the first major single off the “Bosompemaa EP” titled “Have Fun With It”.

“Have Fun With It” is a groovy hip-hop song with a very catchy and melodic hook. In the first verse she shows off her lyrical prowess. She can be heard saying in local dialect twi “Bosompemaa, mey3 ohemaa” which is simply to remind the listener of the Queen that she is, with no other person being at par with her. The song is produced by Riddim Boss and the video was shot by Director Banitchi.
