In a historic moment on August 7th, 2023, The Omanye Royal Kingdom, led by HRM, Queen Vickylextar Okang-Sowah whose lineage stems from the Osu Dowuona Royal family and the Okang-Nmashie Royal Family of Jarasɛɛ no, La,  visited the Cape Coast castle heritage site.

Omanye Royal Kingdom – a representation of diverse races, ethnicities, and professions – is made up of citizens who acknowledge and value a worldview predicated on strength in diversity. The visit to the Castle brought to light the horrific conditions that innocent men, women and children endured against their will.

The visit brought out a complex range of emotions: hurt, anger, confusion, shame, guilt, disappointment…

The Queen, witnessing the look of despair on the faces of her citizens and friends of Omanye Kingdom, gave a heartfelt address – a touching reflection on a place filled with the darkest chapters of human history.

As Her Royal Majesty stood within the castle’s imposing walls, where countless innocent lives were stolen and suffering endured, the weight of history bore down on her.

The address commenced with a moment of silence, a tribute to the countless souls who had perished within the castle’s borders. It was a somber reminder of the atrocities committed there and a tribute to the resilience of those who survived.
