The nominees for the 2011 MOBO Awards have been announced at a launch ceremony at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in London with runaway British sensation, Jessie J topping the list with 5 nominations.  

The 23-year-old singer is up for Best Album, Best Newcomer, Best UK Act, Best Video and Best Song. The ‘Price Tag’ swinger, who only arrived back in the U.K after her impressive performances at the MTV Video Music Awards last Sunday, “What amazing news to come home to!! 😀 wooo hooo!”

Jessie, who is set to perform at the awards ceremony in October, will be up against Adele, who has four nominations, in the Best UK Act, Best Album and Best Song categories. Speaking about her five nominations she said: “I am so honoured to be nominated. I have watched so many of the artists I look up to being nominated, winning awards and performing.”

Wretch 32 and Tinie Tempah also join Adele with four nominations each. Meanwhile Ghana missed out on the ‘ Best African Act’ category this year which saw nominations from the likes of Cheikh Lo, D’banj, Fatoumata Diawara, Liquideep, Owiny Sigoma Band, Seun Kuti, Smod, Spoek Mathambo and Vieux Farka Toure.  Beyonce Knowles, Rihanna, Snoop Dog and Bruno Mars are up for the Best International accolade.

The launch on Wednesday evening wasn’t only attended by the nominated bands but also a whole host of familiar faces from the music industry. Lauren Goodger and Lauren Pope of TOWIE were also at the launch along with Frederik Ferrier from Made In Chelsea and Jessie B from E4’s Dirty Sexy Things.

The MOBO Awards, which recognises music of black origin in the UK, will be hosted by Jason Derulo on October 5 in Glasgow.
