Things to Do with Kids to Keep Them Busy

Published

on

It may be tough for parents to keep their children busy and entertained after school, on rainy and long weekends, when they are unwell, or just don’t want to go to school. One major option has always been to occupy them with movies or cartoons. However, the amount of time children spend in front of a screen is one of the most common concerns for parents. Therefore, parents often look for alternative ways like kids outdoor climber to entertain their kids.

In this article, we will share some exciting activities to do with your kids to keep them busy and entertained.

1.   Freeze dance

To engage in this fun activity, you need to know your children’s favorite songs and play them loudly for them. The music should be turned off unexpectedly while the kids are dancing, and when this happens, they must freeze in place, regardless of where they are or how they are standing, even if just on one leg. To make the game more challenging and fun, have the kids freeze in various stances (animal, shape, letter). This is a fun activity for children of all ages.

2.   Dress-up

Take your child’s clothes out of the closet and tell them to wear whatever they like.  Take out everything they have: hats, socks, jackets, shoes, jeans, or fancy costumes. While your kid will be busy trying all these pieces on, you will be able to do something around the house, work, or study.

Dressing up is an amazing way to build a child’s confidence. The more colorful things they see, the more they wear what they like, and the more they think that they are allowed to wear whatever they want, the more confident they will be in the future. Don’t be a parent that forbids a kid everything. If they want to go with a certain hat or jacket, let them (unless it’s too cold or hot).

If for some reason you don’t want to do that, download interesting dress-up games on your computer and let your child play them.

3.   Puzzles

Taking on a tough puzzle is a great opportunity to test their creative, analytical, and problem-solving skills. You may purchase one already created or have your children build their own puzzle. Give them a sheet of sturdy cardboard or Bristol board and let them draw anything they like. Then, gently draw the puzzle component outlines on top of their artwork. Cut out the pieces using sharp scissors, mix them together, and have them get busy finding the different parts and joining them. This is an easy and fun way to keep children entertained for a long time.

4.   Hot potato

This is a fun game; you can bet everyone participating will laugh hysterically. To begin, instruct the children to form a circle on the floor and play music. To this melody, have everyone in the circle pass a “potato” as quickly as possible, which might be anything from a bean bag to a softball. Whoever is holding the potato when the music ends is out of the game. Continue until just one person remains; that person will be named the winner.

5.   Toy wash

Fill a bottle, plate, or kitchen sink halfway with water. Add some plastic toys and assign the task of cleaning them to your children. Do not use electronic toys for this activity; only plastic toys are recommended. If you do not have plastic toys, ensure you purchase them for this activity. If your kids don’t have an original dancing cactus toy or other toys to wash, you can instruct them to give their pets a fun bath.

6. Pets

Pets are amazing companions for children. As the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry states, “Positive feelings about pets contribute to a child’s self-esteem and self-confidence.” If you have domestic animals, let your kid play with them. Get pet toys that your four-legged friend likes playing with and involve your child. They can run together and won’t even notice how time will pass.

If you don’t have a pet, it’s time to consider getting one. Pay attention to your child’s needs and personality. Nuwber says that dog owners are more interested in sports and the outdoors, while cat owners enjoy more creative activities. If your kid is active and playful, a dog would be perfect for them. If, on the other hand, they are more calm and creative, a cat is what they need.

7.   Sock-matching

Lay your socks on the floor so your kids can browse and look for matching pairs. Whether you have a drawer full of mismatched socks or a drawer full of paired socks, you can still make your kids engage in this exciting game by mixing up the already-matched socks and having children sort them out while they are having fun and staying busy.

8.  Dance videos

When TikTok initially appeared in 2020, it was able to make lip-syncing videos famous around the world for people of all ages; since then, everyone has felt like a celebrity. You don’t have to be a TikTok user to have fun lip-syncing, dancing, or miming.

You and your kids might have fun filming a music video with nothing more than an iPhone. Let the kids have a say in the film’s creation by allowing them to pick the lighting, soundtrack, and overall look. Then, capture the video with your iPhone while resting on a level surface. Share it with the people you care about to make them smile.

Conclusion

It may not be easy to keep children busy, but introducing them to age-appropriate activities is a terrific approach to help them discover the joys and develop their abilities. Remember that keeping children occupied is perfect when you need to work or have some time alone, but try to spend more time with them. They will appreciate it in the future.
