I do not insult my elders, reason I was not in support of “OccupyJulorbiHouse” protests- Okyeame Kwame
Ghanaian rapper, Okyeame Kwame has given more insight into why he isolated himself from the “Occupy Julorbi House” protests, adding that he’s not interested in joining things that insult others.
According to the “Made in Ghana” rapper, although he agrees with protestors that times are tough, insulting older people in the form of protesting was not in line with his principles.
Speaking in an interview with Berla Mundi on the “Day Show,” Okyeame Kwame explained his stance, stating that protestors had no proof that the President was indeed a “Julorbi” (thief).
“If you are organising an event, a campaign or a movement that calls the Flagstaff House “Julorbi,” you didn’t come to consult me and you want me to be a part of it by all means. I am not known to be insulting adults and if my father had lived, he would have been the same age as the President and I can never call my father a “Julorbi.”If I had joined and they called me to court to prove that there’s a “Julorbi” where was I going to find proof? So, I isolate myself, What I do is turn on the light of love in me,” he stated.
Touching on the economic challenges, Okyeame Kwame stated that he’s affected too, however, he will not resort to name-calling to express his grievances because he too is not innocent.
“Leadership has failed me and I think it has failed a lot of people. I am an artiste, before someone can buy my music, come to my show, or come to see a theatre, that person must eat, pay school fees, find money for hospital, insurance, pay their workers so when the economy becomes the way it has become and we keep borrowing, I am the last person to eat. So, I know how it feels, however, everything can be done, maturity is high, I am not interested in joining things that insult others because I am not innocent,” he added.
