The entertainment industry was taken by storm in 2009 with the maiden edition of the phenomenal event, ‘DIVAS CLUB 2009.’ The event, a seminar aimed at empowering women in the entertainment industry and giving opportunities to talented females to achieve their dreams, was the very first of its kind and undoubtedly created considerable buzz.  It was organized by TUMTUM Communications in partnership with YFM and the Silverbird Cinemas.

The first edition was held at the Silverbird Cinemas and had the likes of ace actress Nadia Buari, Miss Malaika 2006, Hamamat Montia, and ace radio and TV personality Amanda Jissih, among others, as resource persons.

The seminar attracted over 250 talented and passionate ladies and the number is expected to grow to over 1000 this year, from within the entertainment industry as well as those aspiring to enter, with focus placed mainly on the latter group.  According to organizers, this year’s event is set to be much bigger, more productive and very entertaining.

This year the event is targeted mainly at talented female students in tertiary institutions; but is also open to all ladies between the ages of 18 and 25 years.

To satisfy the growing demand from last year’s success, the event is in two editions this year; the first edition will be held in Accra and the second edition will come off in Kumasi; all in October. The caliber and number of resource persons is also set to increase; with some of the industry’s most respected and successful women having already signed up for this year’s events. A special guest of honour, known to be one of Nigeria’s most accomplished actresses is also said to be participating in this year’s event. According to organizers, the full list of resource persons and performers will be released soon.

There is also the introduction of the honorary, “OUTSTANDING DIVAS OF THE YEAR AWARD,” which will be presented to four outstanding women from four categories in the industry, namely, Fashion and Modeling, Acting, Broadcasting and Music. The awards will be presented on the final day of the seminar in Accra and will be decided partly by an awards committee to be set up and through an open public voting to be done via sms in the weeks leading up to the event.

This year as well, the number of scout agencies is to be increased with the addition of two foreign labels namely STORM RECORDS famous for artistes such as Naeto C and DEM MAMA Records [Timaya’s record label] set to be coming in to scout.

Lynx Entertainment, Diva Modeling Agency, Paradise Entertainment, IAMFASHION,  and many other influential brands in the industry  will also be turning up to scout for talent amongst the many.

Organizers are certainly promising a phenomenal event this year and from the looks of it, the achievements of the entertainment industry’s most successful DIVAS are sure to be celebrated in a very big way this October.
