stonebwoy 2In 2017, AmeyawDebrah.Com announced many innovated ideas to keep entertaining, informing and educating readers, as a leading celebrity and lifestyle blog in Africa. To end the year that has seen many fun additions to the lifestyle segment, I close the year by picking the one person who stood out for me in the year, based on his personality, achievements and drive. The first recipient of my Personality of the year nod is Reggae/Dancehall artist, Stonebwoy. Although Stonebwoy opened the year with controversy when his estranged resident producer, Beatz Dakay accused him of vandalizing his studio in January, things did not follow on that trend. Read: Beatz Dakay says Stonebwoy vandalized his studio In January, Stonebwoy paid the school fees of 5 final year students of his alma mater, Tema Methodist Day Senior High School. The kind gesture was in line with Stonebwoy’s upcoming initiatives including “The Livingstone Foundation”. Read: PHOTOS: Stonebwoy sponsors 5 students from Tema Methodist Day Senior High School to mark his mum’s birthday Still in January, Stonebwoy was excited when Jemere Morgan’s ‘Transition’ album, which he featured on, climbed to number 2 on the Billboard Reggae Album chart.  Stonebwoy was featured on  track 8 of the album titled ‘A.C.B’. Read: Jemere Morgan’s ‘Transition’ album featuring Stonebwoy now number 2 on Billboard Reggae chart In March we saw photos of a street named after Stonebwoy in his home city of Ashaiman. He shared a photo on Facebook, saying: “Just As I Touched Down..I represent for The HOOD!! And The HOOD represent For Me!!” Read: A street in Ashaiman has been named after Stonebwoy In May, Stonebwoy got a major promotion on the new Morgan Heritage album “Avrakedabra”, when he was featured on “Reggae Night” (Remix) , a song originally done by the legendary Jimmy Cliff. Read: Listen UP: Morgan Heritage drops ‘Reggae Night’ with Stonebwoy In May, Stonebwoy was Ghana’s only nominee in BET Awards ‘Best African Act’ category, an award he won previously. Read: Stonebwoy nominated for 2017 BET Awards Best International Act – Africa In July, Stonebwoy was among the headliners for the Bomboclat Festival in Belgium this year. He played on the Festival’s mainstage on July 21. Also on the lineup were were Konshens, Charly Black, Anthony B, Agent Sasco (Assassin), Etana, Randy Valentine, and more. Read:  PHOTOS from Stonebwoy & Louisa’s white wedding In June, Zylofon Media signed Stonebwoy onto its Zylofon Music label. Zylofon Media  said that the signing was a complete management and promotion deal that aims to take the multiple award-winning musician’s career to greater heights. In September, Stonebwoy received a citation for excellence from New York state senate member,Jesse Hamilton. Lawyer Jesse Hamilton, senator of the state’s 20th district, presented Stonebwoy with the honour for his incredible contributions to the development of Carribean music and arts in Brooklyn. stonebwoy and NYC senator Read: New York State Senate member Jesse Hamilton gives Stonebwoy a citation for work in the Caribbean Stonebwoy can pride himself with working  on Morgan Heritage’s Grammy nominated ‘Avrakedabra’ albumThe song on which he appears ‘Reggae Night (GlobalRemix), was released on May 19, 2017, and also features  Bunji Garlin, Timaya, Stylo G, Rock, DreZion & Jaheim. In December Stonebwoy released a 24-track album, ‘Epistles of Mama’ featuring stars such as Sean Paul, I-Octane, AKA, Burnaby, Sarkodie and many others. Stonebwoy is confirmed to play Summerjam 2018 with Gentleman, Ziggy Marley, Inner Circle, Tarrus Riley, Chris Martin, Jahmiel, Charly Black & more. Next year’s confirmed dates for the festival is from July 6th – July 8th.
