Anthony Hamilton on his love for African music, new label and impact of COVID-19 on music

Multiple award winning American singer, songwriter, and record producer, Anthony Hamilton says he’s loved African music for many years, even before its recent major rise on the global music scene.

In an interview with Ameyaw TV, he said: “I have loved African music since, from the likes of Ladysmith Black Mambazo to Youssou N’Dour.  And I have done shows with Femi Kuti back in the days. I have always loved African musicians like Black Koffee, Lira, Zonke, Vusi Nova  and many others.”

Hamilton has already collaborated with a number of South African artists including Amanda Black and Vusi Nova. He also recently wrapped up a song with Cassper Nyovest and is in talks with Zonke for possible future collaborations.

According to Grammy-winning artist, the COVID-19 pandemic came with a lot of negative impact on business, but there have also been some positive outcomes for him. “Corona has brought touring to a stand still right now, as well as connecting with my fans, how I would normally do it. But I think I have been able to do some of the things virtually. There is not money to be made right now like it use to be, not only for me but for my band mates and other musicians who depend on this revenue to feed their families.  So it is crippling in some instances but we have been able to maintain it in some areas, like virtually growing our brand. It is a different time.”

There is still a lot to expect from Anthony Hamilton; a new single to take us through the holiday season and a new album in the New Year.  Hamilton is now operating as an independent artist; his label is My Music Box.

“I have my new label, My Music Box. I have some artists you should look out for. JxHines is incredible and LaToya London is an amazing singer. Also my book ‘Cornbread Fish ‘N Collard Greens: Inside The Music’ is available on Amazon and Kindle,” hints Hamilton.
