Black Sherif’s debut album “The Villain I Never Was” surpasses 1 billion streams
Black Sherif’s debut album, “The Villain I Never Was” has made history by amassing over a billion streams across four major digital streaming platforms: Spotify, Boomplay, YouTube, and Audiomack.
Released on October 6, 2022, the 14-track album showcases Black Sherif’s genre versatility, featuring collaborations with artists like Burna Boy on the Second Sermon Remix.
The album’s title reflects the theme of being misunderstood, as explored in tracks like “Konongo Zongo,” where Black Sherif shares personal anecdotes of defying societal norms to carve his own path.
Produced by a team including Joker, Samsney, and Jae5, among others, “The Villain I Never Was” offers a 40-minute listening experience blending hip-hop, pop, hiplife, and reggae beats with a touch of highlife. Despite not including streams from platforms like Apple Music, Black Sherif’s achievement marks him as the first Ghanaian artist to reach the billion-stream milestone with a debut album. Notable tracks like “Oil In My Head,” “45,” and “Soja” have contributed to the album’s popularity, solidifying Black Sherif’s status as a rising star in the music industry.
