Doing music in Ghana is a ‘thankless’ job – M3nsa

Ghanaian musician and filmmaker, Mensa Ansah, better known as M3NSA has expressed his disappointment about the lack of appreciation and recognition for artistes in the music industry in Ghana.
He highlighted the fickle nature of Ghanaians’ support for musicians, where they can be enthusiastic one moment and abandon them the next.
Speaking in a candid interview on 3FM Drive on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, M3nsa shared his personal experiences of facing challenges while crowdfunding his BONDZIE album. Surprisingly, even his own family members were hesitant to support his crowdfunding efforts despite being aware of his music career.
“It’s a thankless job in a sense, of course it is. You know you get loved…even some family members were actually making me sell the idea to them. I don’t need to sell the idea to you, you know what I do but you know we took up the challenge and some people came through and they made up for the all the push backs and struggling,” he stated.
The musician further mentioned that even the supposed support system for musicians in Ghana, MUSIGA, failed to assist him when he needed funding for a project. According to him, he followed the proper channels, but MUSIGA only contacted him after he had already completed the project, rendering their support too late to be of any help.
