Edem Recounts How An Award Scheme Asked Him To Perform For Free In Exchange For An Award And Video Shoot
Popular Ghanaian rapper, Edem has shared a shocking revelation, shedding light on the exploitative practices within the Ghanaian entertainment industry.
The ‘Over Again’ singer in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A to Z recounted a distressing experience in which an award scheme asked him to perform for free in exchange for an award and a music video shoot.
According to him, he declined the offer, and lost the slot to another musician who he refused to disclose his identity saying, “that is not my duty to use my platform to promote anybody.”

“There was a year where an award scheme said I should come and do a free performance so that I would win an award and also alongside that they would shoot a video for me. I said ‘no’, and another artist won the award and they shot the video for him,” he stated.
Though Edem refused to disclose the name of the award scheme, he went on to talk about how people in the music fraternity manipulate the system to favour themselves.
Edem’s refusal to comply with such a demand showcases the importance of artists standing up for their worth and refusing to be taken advantage of.
