Get Familiar: B’Morg debuts ‘Mi O Ri Ru Y Ri’ and ‘Wajo’
Nigerian singer, B’morg has released his first two singles, ‘Mi O Ri Ru Y Ri’ and ‘Wajo’ bringing to light his passion for conscious music – the kind that speaks to the soul of social issues.
Like a true blood, B’morg was brought up by a chorister-mum who transferred the discipline of music to a child who desperately needed a unique form of expression. Trying to fill the void bereavement left in his life, he quickly took to nodding and bumping to some hip-hop classics – and soon he caught the bug, infected by some of the great music makers of his teenage days – Mase, R-Kelly, Notorious BIG, Tupac, the game, Nas, Orlado owo and Bright chimezie. Naturally, from mimicking these acts, he found his own voice back in 1997, picking hip-hop, afro pop, and R&B as his weapons of choice – and just like most teenage “heads”, he joined a now defunct boy band aptly called the Mic Blenders back in high school.
Born and bred in Lagos, the chaos of the hustling city soon became a constant inspiration and backdrop for his music. Yet, his Igbo roots are not totally lost to the multi-lingual artiste who comfortably delivers his songs in English, Yoruba, and Igbo as the mood sways him.
Staying true to his daytime job, B’morg crafts his music with such creative precision that of course is expected of an engineer, yet with such unapologetic zest and flair that makes it hard to pigeon-hole his brand of music to any particular genre. The result is a fusion that usually combines hip-hop, R&B, highlife, and afro-pop.
Fast forward to 2012, B’morg the stepson of the streets, debuts as a solo artiste, ready to unleash beautiful music forged in the flames of pain, experience, and passion.
