Ghana ranks 88th in the world by Digital Quality of Life …Ghana has the slowest mobile internet in Africa ?
Global digital wellbeing study finds that Ghana has the slowest mobile internet in Africa.
The fourth annual edition of the Digital Quality of Life Index (DQL) reports that Ghana ranks 88th in the world regarding digital wellbeing. That is out of 117 countries, or 92% of the global population. Out of the five fundamental digital life pillars, Ghana’s worst score is for internet affordability (ranking 109th globally), and the best is for e-security (72nd). Ghana’s e-government services come 82nd, while e-infrastructure and internet quality rank 99th and 102nd, respectively. In the face of waging inflation, fixed broadband internet has become less affordable worldwide for the second year in a row, prying the global digital divide even further.
The DQL study is conducted by the cybersecurity company Surfshark. It evaluates countries based on five fundamental digital wellbeing pillars: internet quality, e-government, e-infrastructure, internet affordability, and e-security. This year, Ghana comes at the lower end of the index, ranking 88th and only making it into the top 90 in the final index. Country ranks 8th in Africa. The country has improved by one position since last year’s edition, rising from 89th to 88th. Out of all index pillars, Ghana’s weakest spot is internet affordability, which needs to improve by 7430% to match the best-ranking country’s result (Israel).

Internet quality in Ghana is very weak, and on a global scale fixed broadband internet is better than mobile
Ghana’s internet quality, considering internet speed, stability, and growth, ranks 102nd in the world and is 29% worse than the global average. Regarding internet speed alone, Ghana’s fixed broadband internet ranks higher than mobile in the global ranking, operating at 54.2 Mbps/s (69th globally). Meanwhile, the mobile internet comes 116th (13.1 Mbps/s).
Compared to Nigeria, Ghana’s mobile internet is 48% slower, while broadband is 3 times faster. Since last year, mobile internet speed in Ghana has decreased by 1.5% (0.2 Mbps), and fixed broadband speed has grown by 4.3% (2.2 Mbps). In comparison, Singapore’s residents enjoyed mobile speeds up to 104 Mbps/s and fixed to as much as 261 Mbps/s – that’s the fastest internet in the world this year.
Internet in Ghana is not affordable compared to global standards, there’s a lot of room for improvement
Ghana’s internet affordability ranks 109th in the world. Residents can buy 1GB of mobile internet in Ghana for as cheap as 8 minutes 44 seconds of work per month, 42% less than in Nigeria. However, compared to Israel, which has the most affordable mobile internet on the planet (5s per 1GB), Ghanaians work 107 times more. Its affordability decreased since the previous year, making people work 3 minutes 19 seconds more to afford the same mobile internet service.
Fixed broadband costs Ghana’s citizens around 18 hours 23 minutes of their precious working time each month. To afford it, Ghanaians have to work 57 times more than Israeli citizens, for whom the most affordable package costs only 19 min of work monthly. Since last year, broadband internet has become more affordable in Ghana, making people work 2 hours 19 minutes less to afford fixed broadband internet service.
The global digital divide is now deeper than ever
Globally, broadband is getting less affordable each year. Looking at countries included in last year’s index, people have to work six minutes more to afford broadband internet in 2022. In some countries, such as Ivory Coast and Uganda, people work an average of 2 weeks to earn the cheapest fixed broadband internet package. The same trend was observed last year. With the current inflation, the pressure on low-income households that need the internet has become even heavier. Surfshark’s study also found that countries with the poorest internet connection have to work for it the longest.
“While countries with a strong digital quality of life tend to be those of advanced economies, our global study found that money doesn’t always buy digital happiness,” – explains Gabriele Racaityte-Krasauske, Head of PR at Surfshark. “That is why, for the fourth year in a row, we continue analyzing the Digital Quality of Life to see how different nations keep up with providing the basic digital necessities for their citizens. Most importantly, our research seeks to show the full picture of the global digital divide that millions of people are suffering from.”
The best and the worst countries to live in by the digital quality of life
Overall, 7 out of 10 highest-scoring countries are in Europe, which has been the case for the past three years. Israel ranks 1st in DQL 2022 pushing Denmark to the second place after its two-year lead. Germany ranks 3rd, and France and Sweden round up the top five of the 117 evaluated nations. Congo DR, Yemen, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Cameroon are the bottom five countries.
Regionally, the US stands out in the Americas as a country with the highest digital quality of life , while Israel takes the leading position in Asia. Among African countries, people in South Africa enjoy the highest digital life quality. In Oceania, New Zealand takes the lead outperforming Australia in various digital areas this year.
METHODOLOGY
The 2022 DQL research examined more than 7.2 billion people regarding five core pillars and 14 underpinning indicators that provide a comprehensive measure. The study is based on the United Nations open-source information, the World Bank, Freedom House, the International Communications Union, and other sources. This year’s study includes seven (6%) more countries than DQL 2021, most of which are African countries.

In this article, we will be answering such questions as to how that comes about, it promises to be an interesting read!
Rotational moulding, also referred to as rotomolding, is a versatile manufacturing method that is revolutionizing several industries by providing high quality, long-lasting solutions that satisfy contemporary market demands. Thanks to its special benefits and capabilities, rotational moulding is making an impression on a wide range of items, from playground equipment to automobile components.
The rotational moulding method, which entails heating and rotating a hollow mould containing a powdered polymer, is at the core of this invention. The polymer coats the inner surface of the mould as it rotates, gradually taking on the required shape. The final product is a seamless, one-piece construction without any joints, seams, or welds once it has cooled. This procedure is perfect for producing goods that are long lasting and durable because it guarantees uniform thickness and excellent strength.
Leading supplier of rotational moulding systems, Granger Plastics, is spearheading this change. Granger Plastics uses rotational moulding and a dedication to quality and innovation to provide customized solutions for a variety of industries. Rotational moulding also provides unmatched durability. Rotationally molded goods have a seamless construction that removes weak points and failure-prone areas, guaranteeing great strength and lifespan. Because of their resilience, rotationally molded items are perfect for outdoor use, where they must endure exposure to inclement weather, UV rays, and heavy use.
Furthermore, rotational moulding is an economical manufacturing technique. Compared to other moulding procedures, this method’s simplicity and capacity to create massive, hollow pieces in a single operation translate into cheaper production costs. Because of its low cost, rotational moulding is a desirable choice for companies trying to streamline their production lines and cut costs.
The automotive, agricultural, construction and healthcare industries have all seen a rise in the use of rotational moulding in recent years. Because they are lightweight and strong, rotational molded components find application in everything from fuel tanks to interior trim panels in the vehicle industry. Rotational molded tanks and containers are necessary for the safe storage and transportation of liquids and chemicals in agriculture. While rotationally molded medical equipment and devices in the healthcare industry adhere to strict quality and safety standards, rotationally molded barriers and barriers in the construction industry offer dependable protection on job sites.
Moreover, rotational moulding has a low environmental impact. Because any extra material may be recycled and utilized again in later production runs, the procedure generates very little waste. Rotationally molded items further lessen their environmental impact because they may be recycled at the end of their life cycle. Due to its eco-friendliness, rotational moulding is a popular option for manufacturers looking to reduce their carbon footprint, as sustainability gains importance among both consumers and corporations.
Ultimately, the manufacturing of robust, superior products is being transformed by rotational moulding in a variety of sectors. Because of its adaptability, resilience, affordability, and sustainability, it is a top option for producers trying to satisfy the needs of contemporary markets. In the future of manufacturing, rotational moulding will surely play an even more significant role as technology develops and new materials and methods appear.

Plc, an indigenous beverage manufacturer, for its ambitious growth plans following the official listing of the Series 1 GHS 600 million Note Programme on the Ghana Fixed Income Market (GFIM).
The funds raised will bolster Kasapreko Co. Plc’s working capital, financing capital expenditures such as operational expansion, and refinancing short-term debts.
Speaking at a joint press briefing in Accra, the Managing Director of CBG, Mr. Daniel Wilson Addo, emphasized the significance of the transaction, indicating that this is the first time an indigenous Ghanaian Bank has worked with an indigenous manufacturing company to raise funding from local pension funds in the public market. This signifies fostering strong partnerships among indigenous companies to overcome financing challenges innovatively.

Mr. Addo stated, “This transaction is a testament to our overriding ambition to make an impact in the communities in which we operate. We stand with you in good times or in bad times”.
