The United Kingdom held the final funeral service for its longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, on Monday, September 19 and some Africans marked the event in ‘grand style’.

After a long journey from Balmoral Castle to Edinburgh, Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall and Westminster Abbey, and finally to St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, Queen Elizabeth’s coffin arrived at its final resting place.

Leaders from around the world attended the state funeral, and thousands of mourners lined the streets to pay their final respects to the Queen, following her funeral earlier in the day.

During this time, some members of the Ghanaian community in the United Kingdom decided to hold their own funeral service for the Queen.

In viral videos shared online, people dressed in red and black Ghanaian attire were seen lining the streets of Conel in Tottenham, North London.

The front of the building where they stood was decorated with red clothes, which are commonly seen at Ghanaian funerals, and lined with chairs that were also dressed in black.

At the venue, a live band performed mostly Highlife-inspired tunes heard at numerous Ghanaian funerals.

Some Nigerian women in London, on the other hand, wore uniform outfits known as ‘Aso Ebi’ to Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on Monday.

The group of women, despite wearing different colors of the same fabric, had the late queen’s image on the front of their outfits.

The pictures were shared on Instagram on Tuesday with the caption,

”Our London Aunties are not joking ooo. Repping Naija all the way. It started as a joke and one of us took it seriously.
The outfits were turned around in four days and delivered from Lagos to London the day before the event. It went viral and the Palace has now requested for it to be displayed at the London Museum.”
