Ghana’s Movie Industry Is Dead And Irrelevant – Umar Krupp Claims

Ghanaian actor, Umar Krupp has asserted that the Ghanaian Movie Industry is dead and irrelevant.

According to him, the film industry must be shut down for at least five years in order to undergo restructuring, so as to give the economy a major boost.

Umar made this statement while speaking in an interview on the Rush Hour Show on Asaase Radio in Cape Coast.

“If it will do us good, let’s shut the Ghana movie industry down for five years.

“Let’s not do anything Ghana movie again. Everyone should go and find a different job so we restructure the whole industry and come back,” he said.

The actor, who is known for his major roles in movies such as Away Bus, House of Gold, John and John amongst others further attributed the bad state of the movie industry to the actions of certain industry gatekeepers who are advanced in age but are unwilling to step aside for the young ones to take over the affairs of the industry.

Without mentioning names, he appealed to these veteran gatekeepers to create an enabling environment for the talented young ones to revive the sector. He also divulged that one of the main challenges the industry faces is the lack of investors due to the uncertainty of return on investments.

According to him, there are young, vibrant actors and producers who are willing and ready to sacrifice to revive the movie industry.

“Ghana has a future because there are talents who are ready to invest in themselves and ready to give out themselves to people to make the best out of them,” he emphasized.
