It Doesn’t Make Sense That Akwaboah Is Not In Artist Of The Year Category

Highlife sensation Akwaboah has expressed surprise at being left out of the Artist of the Year category in this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.  The nominations which were just released saw Akwaboah being nominated in six different categories but lost out on the Artist of the Year category.

According to Akwaboah the lack of representation of Highlife Artists in the Artist of the Year category undermines the hard work the genre’s artists put in showcasing authentically Ghanaian music.

He however added that he remains unperturbed with the snub and will continue to put out quality and timeless songs that his fans have come to know him for.

Expressing his disappointment, he asked. “What does one need to do to get nominated for artist of the year? In my case I was nominated for Album of the year, and two songs off that album earned me nominations as Songwriter of the year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Best Highlife Artist, Best Highlife Song and Record of the year, yet somehow these works were not good enough to be nominated as Artist of the year.”

“It simply doesn’t make sense to me.”

Akwaboah is currently enjoying massive airplay of his Lighthouse EP with ‘Ensesa’, ‘Obiaa’ and more recently  ‘Wo PɛW’adiɛ’ fast becoming fan favorites across the country and beyond.

Last month while picking up the Entertainment Achievement award for Album of the year, Akwaboah reminded his fans to eagerly anticipate the release of the Lighthouse album which according to him is ready.
