Ghanaian artiste, Sister Deborah has sailed through peacefully in the showbiz world for over a decade, “minding her business and drinking her water” as she says in her lyrics.

Although she has kept to herself, focused on her creativity and only spoken out on issues that are dear to her heart, she has still managed to step on some toes with her display of a range of LGBTQ flags, and more.

In a recent sit down with Sika Osei on the “Stripped” show, Sister Derby revealed that although she has received a lot of love from her followers/fans, she has equally received some hate.

“Yes, not a lot. Honestly, the love is way more,” she told Sika Osei when asked if she’s received any hate.

Explaining where she thinks the hate may have come from, Sister Derby stated that based on her own analysis, women have hated on her because she’s confident.

“Okay so most recently, based on my own analysis, I don’t hate other women for hating me because we’ve been brought up differently…So I don’t take it too personal. I think the hating comes from the fact that I’m confident, I do what I want and get away with it. They seem not to understand that it’s strategic, am I insulting someone, am I hurting someone, is it going to get me in jail? No. So you can say everything you want to…” she explained.

Sister Derby adds that she’s also received a lot of backlash for openly supporting LGBTQ+ community.

The “African Mermaid” was featured on the popular “Wo Fie” song by Angel Maxine that is in support of the LGBTQ+ people.

“But most importantly, my feature on Angel Maxine’s song the LGBTQ song, people go like that’s why he left you, you’re a lesbian and all that and I can’t blame them because when I was growing up I didn’t also understand certain things,” she added.
