Tilley, who first worked with Bieber 10 years ago on the “Never Let You Go” video, and with both Bieber and Chance back in 2014 on “Confident,” explains how closely the two worked together to create a narrative that reflects the pain, heartache and frustration people are experiencing all around the world right now.
“The fact that JB and Chance have an incredible connection and can tell this story together, and I can help orchestrate, is a powerful moment and evolution from ‘Confident,’” says Tilley.
FOOTNOTES OUTLINE:
[00:13] “Holy” is the latest release from Justin Bieber who announced the release, stating “New era, New Single. It begins.”
[00:19] The song features Chance The Rapper and was produced by Jorgen Odegard and Jon Bellion.
[00:32] The video was directed by Colin Tilley who first worked with Justin Bieber 10 years ago on his video for “Never Let You Go.”
[00:52] Tilley also previously worked with both Justin Bieber and Chance the Rapper back in 2014 when he directed the video for “Confident.”
[01:11] “When Justin sent me the song…I really wanted to know the meaning and what it meant to him.” – Colin Tilley
[01:16] “He was like ‘You could be having the worst day in the world but what kept me going was the love I had with my wife which is the meaning behind ‘Holy.’” – Colin Tilley
[01:31] “That’s how the story developed. It touches on what the world is going through – people are losing their jobs, it’s a crazy time.” – Colin Tilley
[01:36] “The idea of strangers helping each other can change the outcome of everything. That’s the light at the end of the tunnel we were trying to push for.” – Colin Tilley
[01:50] To make sure the performances came through authentically, the entire video was shot with dialogue and played out as real scenes.
[01:56] Tilley was particularly inspired by two indie films — Blue Valentine and Place Beyond the Pines.
[02:02] They shot the video at a studio in Pomona and recreated each of the sets of a couple of days.
[02:51] The video stars actress and singer Ryan Destiny who you may recognize from television series such as Starand Grown-ish.
[02:58] She also starred in Big Sean’s music videos for “Single Again” and “Paradise.”
[03:10] Fun fact: Destiny actually won a singing contest to attend the red carpet premiere of Justin Bieber’s film Never Say Never back in 2011.
[03:19] Tilley wanted Chance to feel like more of a narrator for this piece.
[03:22] “I wanted Chance to tell his side of the story. It’s a small departure from the rest of the story we were telling.” – Colin Tilley
[03:44] “The fact that JB and Chance have an incredible connection and can tell this story together and I can help orchestrate is a powerful moment and evolution from ‘Confident…’”
[03:49] “Our intention was not to make your typical music video; we really wanted to push this in a narrative direction. A new era of Justin.”
[04:42] Deciding who to cast for the video was a collaborative effort between Justin Bieber and Colin.
[04:45] “Wilmer came up as someone who might really step up to the plate to play this character. It was cool when I got on the phone with him, he spoke about wanting to represent the Latinos and was passionate about this role that I wrote for him and the glove fit perfectly.” – Colin Tilley
[05:06] “Colin and I put our hearts behind making this video…We know that there’s a lot going on in the world right now. A lot of pain, a lot of heartache, a lot of frustration, a lot of people losing jobs.” – Justin Bieber

Leon Thomas

Entering what promises to be a massive era, GRAMMY® Award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer Leon Thomas unveils a new single and music video entitled “X-Rated” [feat. Benny The Butcher] today. Listen to it HERE, and watch the music video HERE.

The single marks Leon’s debut music under multiplatinum artist, singer, songwriter, producer Ty Dolla $ign’s newly inked EZMNY Records, a joint label venture with Motown Records. Ty shares his excitement, stating, “Leon’s talent was just a higher level from every other singer or producer that I was hearing, and the fact that he was doing everything himself from playing bass to working Logic and Pro Tools. From the first song I heard, I knew he was one of them ones.”

On Leon’s “X-Rated” track, a glitchy beat holds down the groove beneath warbling loops, building a layered soundscape evocative of nineties hip-hop. His vocals glide over this backdrop as he celebrates female sexual freedom in the verses before a chantable chorus, “X-Rated girl, if these walls could talk.” Meanwhile, Griselda spitter Benny The Butcher pulls up with a fiery feature. The strikingly cinematic visual, which Thomas directed, captures these vibes on-screen and includes a cameo appearance from Ty Dolla $ign.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the song, Leon shares, “X-Rated is an ode to my love of “Boom Bap” and early 90’s instrumentals. Benny The Butcher brought authentic bars and helped further the theme of this record.”

A prolific songwriter and producer, Leon’s unique sound and writing wizardry can be found up and down the Billboard charts. He’s contributed to anthems for everyone from Toni Braxton and Babyface –winning a Grammy for his writing credits on the duo’s 2014 joint album Love, Marriage & Divorce—to Post Malone, Ariana Grande, Chris Brown, Kehlani, J. Cole, Rick Ross, Ella Mai, and more. As a co-writer and co-producer, he recently powered “Pipe Down,” “Love All” [feat. JAY-Z], and “In the Bible” [feat. Lil Durk & Giveon] from Drake’s global chart-topping Certified Lover Boy album.

Also, a true vocalist and artist in his own right, Leon unveiled his debut EP Genesis in 2018, which garnered tens of millions of streams and earned him critical acclaim. He continues to be a musical force of nature with the release of “X-Rated” and a highly anticipated project due out soon. Be on the lookout for more from Leon!

From writing and producing on #1 albums with chart-breaking artists to starring on hit television series, GRAMMY® Award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, and actor Leon Thomas has become one of the most watched multi-hyphenate talents in the entertainment industry today. Lil Durk and Giveon. Born in Brooklyn and raised by his vocalist mother, opera-singing grandfather, and stepfather who played guitar for B.B. King, Thomas’ musical career began early. He appeared as Young Simba on Broadway’s The Lion King at 10 years old and began working with Nickelodeon at 13, voicing The Backyardigans character Tyrone and starring in Victorious for the show’s entire run. Belgian-Ghanaian born artist, Bakilla is out with an upbeat single ‘Ghana’ together with an accompanying video which sees him in the company of some gorgeous models as he sings and basks in the magnificence of their true beauty – their dark skin tone.

Bakilla shares the screen with his dark-skinned queens in a stunning and stylish show of why black is beautiful. The video, which is now out on the star’s YouTube has a number of shots showcasing a bevy of women and himself in scenes that go from all white to very colorful; the latter flush with some dramatic lighting and sensual dances to top it all off. There’s also lots of shots in between with Bakilla dancing and sipping liquor and you can watch it all below.

“I wanted the video to show the most important elements of Ghana”, Bakilla shared. “And to me that is the beauty and value of both of black men and women in all its visual integrity. The message is meant to touch on both senses of the term ‘black beauty’ and its associated charms. Black women must appreciate their tones, that of black men, and black men must also do the same for harmony to exist. This is the kind of education I would like to extend to younger generations”.

Talking to Elite PR (@theelitepr) about the song, Bakilla further revealed: “I settled for Ghana as the song’s title not just because it’s my motherland, but due to its other etymologies which I felt mattered. It represents the name of a woman and a promised land!”.

‘Ghana’ comes after the Afrobeat and R&B singer’s well-received ‘Vibration’ and is up on all digital streaming platforms globally here: https://bakilla.lnk.to/Ghana

Farruko Releases Powerfully Impacting Summer Anthem “Nazareno”

Published

on

As one of the music industry’s most prominent figures, Farruko, continues to create music that is relevant and impactful – something that is showcased with his latest song “Nazareno.” The song and its official video are available for streaming on all digital platforms today.

Throughout his remarkable and renowned musical career, the Puerto Rican urban music legend is once again proving that he is one of the most versatile artists of his generation by creating music that is not only in tune with current industry trends but also in line with his beliefs and positive messaging. His latest track, “Nazareno,” features Farruko’s signature style of using cutting edge rhythms and beats to produce something that will have everyone up off their seats and dancing throughout the summer. The lyrics of the song weave a story of someone who was being washed over by an external tide of undesired influences while longing for something better.

The video, which was directed by Mike Ho and produced by Cinema Giants, shows Farruko at a club surrounded by people who are in the throes of partying. The Puerto Rican rapper can be seen dressed in all white, a symbolic show of purity, while everyone around him is dressed in dark colors. The video was executive produced by Raul Celaya and Jessy Terrero.

“Wow. Nazareno. What a video. When me and Farruko spoke, we talked about doing something special for Nazareno. Something that would shock the world. Something that would touch people…but not the ones that are reachable. We wanted to reach the ones that the church doesn’t go for. This is going in and showing the TRUTH of what living in sin is to save the ones that need to be saved. That’s what Farruko wanted to do with this video.” comments Mike Ho.

In April, the critically acclaimed performer released his song “My Lova,” which focuses on the painful emptiness one feels when the most important person in one’s life is no longer around them and how walking that path can feel solitary. Since its release, the song has accrued over 3.36 million views on Youtube and over 3.29 million combined streams. Farruko first premiered the song on the Latin American Music Awards stage and later in the telecast joined an ensemble of over 30 artists including the Black Eyed Peas, Ozuna, Prince Royce and more for a special performance of “Where Is The Love” in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

At the beginning of 2022, the multi-award-winning singer-songwriter took the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart with his song “El Incomprendido” featuring Victor Cardenas and DJ Adoni off of his LA 167 album. The song has garnered over 56.6 million YouTube views and over 118 million combined global streams.

Set in Los Angeles, CA the “Lately” music video is a stunning vignette of heartbreak and moody tension that matches the energy of the R&B earworm. Listen Here: https://eliderby.lnk.to/LeftOnRead

Hailing from PG County, Maryland and now based in Atlanta, GA, Eli Derby released his debut EP, Left On Read, last month. The five-track R&B project expertly showcases Eli’s prowess for addictive melodies and relatable songwriting. Eli wanted to reflect on the nature of how his generation of peers (Gen Z) often find solace on social media and yet struggle to actually communicate true feelings… leaving each other on “read.”

The 18 year old broke onto the scene last Fall with debut single “Gaslight.” The song received high acclaim from the likes of Complex, Billboard Uproxx, Okayplayer, VIBE (“…a catchy vibe”) — all praising the track as one of the week’s best R&B releases. Signed to LVRN (home to 6lack and Summer Walker and more), Eli has been busy gaining experience on the live arena performing sessions and sets across the DMV and South (watch his acoustic performance of “Gaslight” here) and ready to release more music in 2022 off the back of Left on Read.

Taken from Lojay & Sarz’s collaborative LV N ATTN EP last year, the original “Monalisa”became an early standout due to its hypnotic beat and infectious hooks, becoming not just one of the biggest releases in Nigeria, but a global hit that put Lojay on the map as one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising cultural exports and cemented Sarz’s reputation as the most significant name in Afrobeats. Check out the duo’s LV N ATTN EP HERE.

With over 100 million streams to date, it’s safe to say that “Monalisa” became something of a cultural phenomenon last year. The track not only won applause from the likes of The Face, HYPEBEAST, and The FADER — where it ranked No. 30 on their 100 Best Songs of 2021 list— but it also became the 5th most streamed song across Nigeria last year. Meanwhile, the track demonstrated its massive transatlantic reach by peaking at No. 1 on Shazam’s Global Afrobeats chart and within the top 10 on both the US and UK Official Afrobeats charts.

Sharing his excitement about the new remix, Lojay says, “at the time I was creating this song I would have never imagined hearing a Chris Brown verse on it but the best part is he actually took his time and killed it and gave the song a different feel.
