In what most people are referring to as a puzzling affair, contemporary highlife singer, Kwabena Kwabena is set to headline the “Songs of David” Choral Music Fiesta on Saturday night. He is also set to become one of the resident judges for the reality television show. People are therefore left wondering if the velvet voiced highlife crooner will sing more spiritual and Christian songs on the night or will stick to the romantic highlife ballads that are synonymous with his performances.
Come Saturday, 11th December, the search for the GH’s finest alternative choral music group will kick off with the “Songs of David” Choral Music Festival to be held at the Presec-Legon Hall in Legon.
On this day, 15 choral music groups selected from across the nation during the zonal audition sections in the Southern and Northern zones will compete on the same stage, for the very first time, in their bid to win over the judges and audiences in the auditorium and at home watching it on television.
The list of choirs set to lock horns include Bi-tonic choir [Greater Accra Region], Prophetic choir [Central Region], Presby Boys Choir [Greater Accra Region], ICGC Strong Tower [Greater Accra Region], Accra Youth Choir [Greater Accra Region], Dansoman Youth Choir [Greater Accra Region], Teshie Youth Choir [Greater Accra Region] Ajumako Enyam Essiam Youth Choir [Central Region], Music Makers [Greater Accra Region], Abeka Union Church Choir [Greater Accra Region], Calvary Methodist Choir Amammereso Youth Choir [Ashanti Region], Instrufaith Takoradi St. John Youth Choir [Eastern Region], Ngleshie Amamfrom SHS [ Greater Accra Region].
In a night that is sure to be full of heartwarming and delightful choral music, each group will be performing Christmas carols, contemporary gospel tunes, indigenous Ghanaian compositions and love songs.
Other guest artistes performing on the night will include The Commissioned family and many more. Out of the 15 choirs chosen from the regional auditions that will perform, only 12 will be chosen to participate in the 10 week long reality show television show. To keep your choirs in the competition, choral music lovers are being encouraged to come watch them perform and vote by sending SD (and name of choir) to 1736 on Airtel, Expresso, MTN, and Vodafone.
