Ghanaian Afropop and Afrobeats singer, Wendy Asiamah Addo, otherwise known as Wendy Shay, has voiced an important perspective regarding the criteria used to gauge the success of a musician by some Ghanaians.

In a twitter (X) post on Sunday, August 27, 2023, the ‘Masakra’ hitmaker questioned fans and entertainment critics who claim Ghanaian artistes cannot fill larger venues when performing abroad and also win Grammy Awards.

According to her, some great artistes like Bob Marley and 2Pac did not win Grammys or fill the O2 Arena yet they were successful musicians.

”Why has Filling 02 and winning Grammys become the standard to measure the success of an artist? Bob Marley and 2Pac are successful musicians but have never won a Grammy. Let Ghanaian musicians breathe! Ghana, wake up!” she wrote.

Her comment comes days after some netizens subjected Ghanaian musicians to trolls and insults after Asake, a Nigerian artiste, made history by filling up the 20,000-seater O2 Arena.

She joins a tall list of Ghanaian crooners who in diverse ways have addressed the criticism by social media users and entertainment pundits.
