Urithi Entertainment is set to present a Total African Theatre performance dubbed ‘Masking The King’ on April 30 and May 1 at the Kempinski Hotel. The production runs 7pm each night and it would feature some of the biggest names in Ghanaian theatre. Through storytelling, poetry, music, dance, mime and drama a scintillating story about chieftaincy battle is unravelled in a fictitious village of Ntampa in ‘Masking The King’. Set among the Akans in the early 60s, the play reveals a people and village steep in culture as depicted by their dressing, language, traditions and even forms of entertainment. The Queen of Ntampa village is expected to successfully negotiate the conundrum of who becomes King after the death of Ntampa’s long serving King. Among the three contenders for the throne are Kwaku Wiafe, Agya Poku and Kwasi Frimpong. The latter wins the race and is appointed King by the Queen. There is wide dissatisfaction amongst some royals as to the eligibility of Kwasi Frimpong although no clear charges can be pressed against him.
A flamboyant display of the rich culture as pertaining to the burial rites of Kings among the Akans is performed with the new King presiding over proceedings. Other Kings from far and near come and console and support the new King in his moment of grief. The dissatisfaction, however, increases after the royals realise mismanagement of money after the funeral celebration of their immediate past King. This was not an issue grievous enough to challenge Kwasi Frimpong to step down from the throne.
Finally, a charge is levelled against the ineligibility of Kwasi Frimpong after evidence reveals that he has committed what tradition deems as a sacrilege. As tradition dictates, Kwasi Frimpong is dethroned. Between Kwaku Wiafe and Agya Poku, there is little to separate them and select the heir to the throne. Nevertheless, Agya Poku makes it easier for the Queen to choose the next heir as he is caught stealing from the Kingdom’s treasury with the intention of implicating Kwaku Wiafe if he had gotten away with this thievery. The play ends with the coronation of Kwaku Wiafe as the King of Ntampa village much to the delight of not only the townspeople but also the royals.
Urithi Entertainment hopes to revive Total African Theatre in Ghana and make it attractive to the young and cool, as well as mature audiences. Total African Theatre performances are communal in nature and made of different art presentations: storytelling, ritual, dance, music, poetry, narration, movements, sculpturing and even digital art presentations. Due to the multiplicity that characterises Total African Theatre, the creation of content often requires the involvement of many hands, unlike a script authored by a single person. And where a playwright is employed, the person attempts to work collaboratively with the production team.
The creative process requires a collaborative and communal approach. Also, the story of the performance is often based on a concept or an idea; one that engages an entire society, often of a national and/or a global scale. Examples of such ideas could be: the making of a nation, national identity, migration, climate change, a societies cultural practices, etc… The beauty of total African performances lie in the multiple layers of presentation, its communal feel and most importantly, a condensed energy that fuels the performance. A good performer for a Total African Theatre must be versatile and creative and must be someone with a lot of performance energy.]]>

The celebrations, which began with spectacular fireworks witnessed by Otumfuo himself, will culminate in the Silver Jubilee anniversary on Akwasidaekese on June 12 at Dwabrem, Manhyia Palace.

Stephen Appiah to contest John Dumelo and Lydia Alhassan in MP race for Ayawaso West Wuogon
Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah is set to enter the political fray by rubbing shoulders with notable personalities in the upcoming general elections.
The former Juventus midfielder is believed to be lacing his boots to face the likes of John Dumelo and the incumbent member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency Lydia Alhassan.
While Dumelo and Alhassan represents the NDC and NPP respectively, Appiah is expected feature in the elections as an independent candidate.
This was revealed by the Spokesperson of the Ayew family Fiifi Tackie via X on Friday afternoon.
“Stephen Appiah to contest Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency as an independent Parliamentary candidate,” he wrote.
If Stephen Appiah affirms the reported news, he will be following in the footsteps of other renowned figures in Ghana football who have indulged in politics recently.
Earlier this year, all-time top scorer of the Black Stars Asamoah Gyan was appointed as the sub-committee chair of Youth and Sports in the campaign committee of Dr Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
In acceptance of the appointment, Gyan emphasised the need to share hos ideas garnered through experience in the game.

However, it didn’t pan out well for the former Wa All Stars owner as he lost disappointingly.
He garnered a paltry 35 votes after close to 1,081 delegates had cast their votes in the parliamentary primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held in the Ejisu Constituency on April 13.

Caradise Ghana Car Rental Facilitates Transportation for Global Christian Forum held in Accra
Caradise Ghana Car Rental has once again successfully facilitated the transportation of over 240 participants from 60 countries across the globe for the recently ended Global Christian Forum in Accra, Ghana.
Numerous buses hauled the various participants from the Airport to their designated hotels from the 12th to 15th of April, 2024. Participants were then transported from their hotels to the conference grounds daily for the gathering of devoted Christians from the 16th to the 19th of April, 2024.
The forum began with a vibrant, joyful worship service held at Accra Ridge Church. The Rev. Dr. Casely Essamuah welcomed participants to Ghana and to the Fourth Global Gathering, and participants spent the day sharing their faith stories with one another across the litany of differences represented.
The forum was climaxed with a dinner and 25th anniversary celebration at the Action Chapel Internation Church hosted by Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams.
After the forum, the participants took the opportunity to visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum where they learnt about the great Pan-Africanist, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Ghana’s journey to inpendence.
The participants also spent a day in Cape Coast where they learnt about the millions of enslaved, dehumanised African men, women, and children at the Cape Coast Castle. Witnessing first hand how Africans were forcibly taken captive to the Americas, Caribbean, and Europe as objects of lucrative trade.
