unsungIt’s a fierce contest this year as has always been the case. The success stories of MzVee and Dark Suburb (all past unsung winners) has made the VGMA unsung a must win. This year there are six candidates in the running. Which one of them will get the chance to perform on the VGMA stage on 7th May? Here’s a brief profile on each of them, don’t forget to vote for your favorite. 

FELI NUNA

Felicia Nuna Akosua Tawiah, popularly known as Feli Nuna is a Ghanaian song writer, singer and rapper who is able to express herself and her music through Afro beats, Reggae/ Lover’s Rock, Hip Hop and contemporary High Life.

In 2013 she came our way with her first hit song ‘Ghana Girl Swag’ which made waves on radio and television for a while. She is currently signed to Beehyve Entertainment; A Ghanaian based record label as their maiden artist. Under which she has released two hit songs namely ‘I LIKE AM’ produced by Fizzi, video shot and directed by Gyo of Phamous Philms and ‘AWOLA’ featuring Pappy Kojo.

The Daavi Diva, with her distinct melody and unique delivery aspires to grow into the artist she is becoming and promises that every move from her camp will be a testament of quality and impeccable art. Feli Nuna’s vision is to become the Queen of African music in the years to come. To claim major awards both locally and internationally raising Ghana and the continent of Africa high through her music.

PEREZ MUSIK

Perez Musik originally known as Frank Tagoe is an urban gospel musician with a unique blend of Hiplife and highlife music.

Some of his songs that made impact in his sector includes “Good over Evil ft Episode” and “Shake it ft Kingzkid” which were on his 13 track album titled Tenacity

He is also a music producer who is dedicated to channeling his talent and resources to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through music.

He continues to gain grounds in the gospel music scene with his unique style of delivery. He is described as a breath of fresh air!

ADOMAA

Joy O. S. Adomaa Adjeman (stage name Adomaa) is a young, positive and passionate multi-talented singer, actress and model. She brings a refreshing new surge of unique artistry to the world of Ghanaian music, with her personal style – an exclusive mélange of jazz, soul, highlife and afro beat which she terms Afro-jazz

As more than just an entertainer, Adomaa’s desire is to personally touch people’s lives through her music as well as creates an individualistic blend of vintage and Afro pop culture that relates to as many people as possible.

Her hit releases include the Baafira-Adonai mashup, which brought her to public notice, the Evolution of Gh Music mashup, and the catchy singles Traffic Jam and Tempo off her first ever original project, Afraba the EP

WAN O

Wan-O, the name which is an acronym that stands for one and only depicting the uniqueness he stands for is a hip-life/hip hop artiste. William ‘Wan-O’ Ansah discovered his musical ability as early as age 6 when he started putting words together and free-styling. His first record deal was offered to him when he was 12.

Wan-O’s versatility, deep concepts, witty flow and catchy style has gained the young artiste recognition and earned him collaborations with some top names in the game.
Wan-O’s hit song ‘The Message’ which he features the VRMG general, Edem, is currently people’s favorite and shooting the budding rapper into limelight…Some of his other hits include Elavanyo which he features Lil Shaker, Hangover featuring the Telemo hitmaker Gasmilla, Rapper of the year and Da future which he features Ghana’s RnB sensation Chase

NII FUNNY

Fast rising Hiplife musician, Nii Funny, popped up on the music scene in the last quarter of 2015 as one of the several underground musicians struggling for success but his song, ‘Yooko Ebreaki Me’, officially known as ‘Broken Heart’ soon became one of the most popular tracks making the rounds especially on the streets, at events and on radio. He is currently working on a remix of the hits featuring Edem!

Nii Funny has other hit songs including ‘Education’, ‘Goliath’, ‘Judas’ and his newly released track; ‘Odonkpo’ in which he featured Kesse.

The official music video for the song has also been released and it featured several known faces including Gasmila, Funny Face, Ayittey Powers, Psalm Adjeteyfio and Papa Shamo of ‘Chorkor Trotro’ fame.

Nii Funny, a former student of the Accra Technical Training College (ATTC) is known in private life as Ishmael Nii Ardey Ankrah. He comes from a family of musicians. His dad is a singer and composer and it is certainly not by sheer coincidence that Gasmila of Telemo Fame, Nii Soul (Joe Mentor) and Prince of Mentor fame are all his first cousins

EBONY REIGNS

Ebony’s real name Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng is a fast rising versatile female artist in Ghana now. Ebony’s genre of music is dancehall, afro beats, high life and hip hop. She has recorded over 200 songs and currently her song and video ‘dancefloor’ is enjoying massive airplay in Ghana. The super talented songstress has had the opportunity to collaborate with top music acts such as VVIP, Mugeez of R2bees and Ruff n Smooth. It is no doubt that very soon Ebony Reigns will be the next biggest thing Ghana will experience. Her humility and drive to be on top of the ladder, is bigger than the earth!
