Multi-Platinum Producer Helluva Recruits Veeze & GMO Stax For “No Membership”

Helluva, the producer responsible for soundtracking Detroit’s rap renaissance as well as hits for Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Yachty, and Kodak Black, is stepping out with a new single, “No Membership.” The trunk-rattling song features two of the Motor City’s brightest voices, Veeze and GMO Stax. Veeze is a rising-star in the Detroit scene most notable for his track “Law N Order”—a flip of the iconic theme song from the hit T.V. show “Law and Order”.

Over a Helluva beat built out of hard drums, captivating keys, and bright synth accents, the two rappers rap their realities—surviving the perils of life in the street. Veeze raps about how he sees Stax as a twin as the two artists trade bars on how they belong to a street society that does not offer membership cards.

A native of Southwest Detroit, Helluva has produced the city’s breakout stars, including Tee Grizzley, 42 Dugg, Sada Baby, and Peezy. Five years ago, he supplied a relatively unknown Grizzley with “First Day Out.” Complete with a Meek Mill-assisted remix, the song marched to quadruple platinum and brought attention back to The D. The producer and rapper doubled up on that chemistry for 2017’s “From The D To The A,” a twice platinum collaboration with Yachty.

Helluva cultivated sounds for the city’s new class, applying his 20-plus years of experience to molding each rapper into a standout artist. “I like to listen to somebody and get to know them as a person,” he shares. “That’s how the music develops. I make the music match their personality and uniqueness.” As Detroit occupied the spotlight, respected stars from other cities sought out Helluva beats. Jeezyand E-40, reached out, as did Meg, who collaborated with Helluva for two songs from her 2020 gold-certified Suga album, including the platinum lead single “B.I.T.C.H.” Helluva’s impressive catalog now includes over one billion streams and counting.

Helluva‘s journey is far from an overnight success. He has rapped and made music for over 25 years. Despite lacing the Detroit underground with beats since the late 1990s, the producer, born Martin McCurtis struggled to make ends while being the sole provider for his four children who relied on him. After stringing together a modest underground production career, the veteran began to lose hope for making his dream a reality. Stints in jail and relocating his family to Atlanta wore him down, especially as Detroit rappers went to other regions for beats. Refusing to mimic another region’s style, he eventually returned to Michigan. At a personal and professional low point, the producer was tapped to work with Tee Grizzley. “We both started from the bottom,” Helluva says. Together, they made “First Day Out,” a monstrous 2016 single that marked an introduction for a star and an awakening for a city. Helluva’s phone has not stopped ringing since; over a billion have heard his trademark tag. Now, after 4 platinum and 3 gold credits, Helluva returns with music under his name—his first since 2011’s Hell Froze Over. A decade later, that everlasting hometown love and dedication are alive on “No Membership.”
