Over 10,500 sign petition to ban George Lutterodt from TV & Radio, in less than 24 hours
There has been a strong call on social media to ban counselor George Lutterodt from TV & Radio in Ghana, since he made comments about ‘rape victims enjoying in the process’.
A petition on Change.Org by Ivy Prosper has gathered steam garnering almost 11,000 signatures in less than 25 hours. According to the petition which is addressed to The Ministry of Communication, National Communications Authority, All Media Outlets in Ghana, and Ghana Psychology Council, George Lutterodt’s comments and behavior in the media are unacceptable. Read the statement below:
George Lutterodt has openly said on Adom TV in an interview that he feels rape victims enjoy the act of being raped. When questioned on his statement he continued to justify his belief that when someone is being raped, the victim enjoys the act. This type of statement to a national audience on television, only promotes rape culture. George Lutterodt is a ‘rape apologist’ who justifies the aggression of rape and sees no consequences in the act.
Women and children are the biggest number of victims suffering from rape and physical abuse on a regular basis, it’s a shame that media gives a public platform to a person who only serves to give rapists in the community justification for their heinous acts. Statistic from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service reveals that six women are raped every week. These numbers only represent the number of women who actually report the cases. There are countless others who suffer in silence because of fear and stigma attached to being a rape victim.
This petition is to ask media outlets in Ghana to stop giving George Lutterodt a platform to spread his damaging message to the masses.
The Ghana Psychology Council already has told the media last year that they should stop making reference to him and stop having him as a commentator. The Psychology Council has said that he is not qualified for the title of Counsellor and he is not licensed.
We implore the media houses, newspapers, online sites, radio stations to ban him from future appearances on TV and Radio stations.
Citi TV, Joy Prime, Konkonsa TV, Adom TV, Agoo TV, Ashaiman TV, Atinka TV, Crystal TV ,DGN, e.tv Ghana, GHOne TV, GTV, GBC 2, Metro TV, Net 2 TV, Obonu TV, Oceans TV, Onua TV, Pan-African TV, Praise TV, Trotro TV, TV Africa, TV XYZ, TV3, UTV, and 4Stye TV are among the popular TV stations that should BAN him from appearances.
Popular radio stations including, CitiFM, JoyFM, Angel FM, STARR FM, KASAPA FM, Rainbow Radio, Adom FM, Peace FM, Asempa FM, Radio Gold, Radio XYZ, HITZ FM, Live FM, Breeze FM, 3FM, Okay FM, Hot FM, Unique FM, Radio Universe and many more, should also ban him from any interviews and appearances on the radio.
