Rappers should be able to live other people’s reality, not just theirs- Sarkodie on keeping his music exciting

Award-winning Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie has shared some tricks he thinks Ghanaian rappers can use to enhance their flow of rap and uniqueness when it comes to music craft.
In an interview on Hitz FM, Sarkodie expressed his view on some of the criticism he has received since the release of Bob Marley’s ‘Stir it Up’ remake.
According to Sarkodie, rap should not be about the artiste’s own lived experiences, but experiences from his/her surroundings.
The “No Pressure” rapper explained that there are some things he has talked about in his music which he hasn’t experienced.

‘‘When I started even talking about champagne, I had never even tried it before, when ‘borga borga’ even came I had not travelled before so it’s not really about what you are doing’’, he stated.
Sarkodie added that using the real-life stories of people around him to make music gives his music the excitement it generates.
‘‘As an artist you have to be able to live people’s reality, because if I am talking about me, it might be boring and I don’t even do much myself but a lot of people are going through stuff that you can just pick from and I am a boys boys person so when we meet and we are talking about things then you are picking certain things from them and you get to know that this is what is going on’’, Sarkodie added.
