The Glo X Factor competition is about the judges as much as it is about the contestants, as judges battle it out each week to make sure their mentees inch closer to the ultimate prize. Reggie Rockstone, mentor to the Groups, is out of the race as Ghana’s Symphony was evicted over the weekend. They were the last surviving group in the competition.
The group who joined the show from the Kumasi audition centre gave off their best from their first day at the Golden Tulip hotel in Kumasi qualifying to be part of the 35 singers selected to represent Ghana in Lagos. Symphony’s splendid performance did not only get them into the Lagos boot camp but earned them a slot in the final nine chosen to compete for the ultimate prize of $150,000. Notwithstanding the panache with which they performed each song chosen for them by their mentor, Reggie Rockstone, Their exit comes as no surprise. Celebrities in show business had predicted this day especially as the three-man group had come up twice for eviction due to their public vote count. Judge Onyeka in her comment praised their flair and enthusiasm adding that they should not kill this talent. Upon their arrival at the Kumasi airport, Symphony was received by a welcome party and driven through the principal streets of Kumasi and then to their various families for what turned out to be a heroic welcome. Each family was full of praise and admiration that their sons had made it thus far in an international competition which started with thousands of teeming youth. The parents of the group in consonance with tradition led their illustrious sons to the palace of the chief of Paatase, who doubles as the custodian of the Asante King’s wardrobe, Nana Adu Ansri Sarpong where some town folks and palace officials received the entourage. Nana Sarpong was impressed with the feet attained by Symphony and devoting themselves to opportunities that exemplifies them from other young people. He prompted them to be extra mindful of their conduct and utterances as in his words “you are now world class singers.” In addition, Nana Sarpong reminded all gathered that the likes of gospel musician the Great Ampong and midfielder Michael Essien were all discovered through such contests. “We would continue to celebrate you in order to encourage others. Also on behalf of all my subjects, I congratulate Glo Mobile for sponsoring this competition, if this is what Glo offers my grandchildren, then I urge you all to continue using that network.” Having concluded his address, Nana then requested for a highlife performance from Symphony, this nearly turned the palace into a dance hall prompting Nana to pledge his support for the group in order to launch their first track or album. Symphony for thier part, assured Nana that they would take up his challenge and notify him of thier album launch duely. The group again used the opportunity to urge Ghanaians to remember that Eshun was still in the competition and needed our voting in order to help her bring the ultimate prize home.
