11 September 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. In The 9/11 Decade, Al Jazeera English assesses who, if anyone, won the ‘War on Terror.’ Al Jazeera’s bold coverage of America’s ‘War on Terror’ after 9/11 became a key part of the biggest story of the last decade.
Before, during and immediately after the anniversary day, Al Jazeera News teams will be reporting live from New York, Washington and a number of locations across the world where ordinary people’s lives have been affected by 9/11 and its aftermath. Executive produced by Oscar and Emmy winner Jon Blair, The 9/11 Decade looks behind the scenes in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kenya, Jordan, Yemen, Pakistan, The United States and Europe to tell the inside story from both sides of the first great conflict of the 21st century. Interviews include:
- Mike Scheuer, the CIA’s top Bin Laden expert and the former head of the CIA’s al-Qaeda station
- Sami Al-Hajj, an Al Jazeera cameraman who was held for six-and-a-half years as an enemy combatant in the US prison at Guantanamo Bay. Before finally being released with no charges, Al-Hajj alleges he was tortured and that during his interrogation, the United States tried to persuade him to become a spy for them against Al Jazeera.
- John McLaughlin, the CIA’s former Deputy Director General
- Millah Nathim Al-Jaboori, former Iraqi insurgent and al-Qaeda leader, now in exile in Jordan.
- Yakub, a ferryman from L’Alpur, Afghanistan, who assisted al-Qaeda members escape US troops in the winter of 2011
The Media War- A decade of information through the media has persuaded the world to pick sides on the war on terror. Did any of it succeed?
