Akua Saah Essoun, COO and Deputy CEO at the Makers Electronics Company

The Makers Electronics Company has won the Promising Company of the year award at the 2021 Ghana Business Awards held at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra. The Makers Electronics deals in the sale of electronics and home appliances and offers services to Ghanaians from all walks of life

The company, which is about a year old, beat competition from four other companies in that category. In barely a year of its operations, The Makers Electronics has five branches: three in the Greater Accra Region, and one each in Kumasi and Takoradi respectively.

Chief Executive Officer of the company, Stephen Essoun, told B&FT that although the company started amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, it braved the odds to stay afloat.

“I give thanks to God for such wonderful recognition. Gaining such recognition from this prestigious organisation feels like Heaven on Earth. Sincerely, we started operating at a time Covid had taken over the activities of the world. My wife, Akua Saah Essoun, and I did not give up. We decided to grow the company irrespective of the world challenge and under a space of one year, we have been able to solve the home appliances and consumer electronics needs of the good people of Ghana as well as reducing the unemployment rate in the country.”

Mr. Essoun said the company is committed to expanding its branch network whiles offering competitive prices and discounts to customers.

“I see this award as a challenge to do more by opening more branches to continue to reduce unemployment, as well as helping solve the home appliances and consumer electronics needs of the good people of Ghana. Currently operating in Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi, we hope to extend our branches to every corner of the country.

It is our fervent hope that Ghanaians will continue to patronize our wide range of products, with undoubtedly the highest discount ever (up to 67%). We decided to give this discount because we want to make our products easily affordable by all. I want to use this medium to inform Ghanaians about our Black Friday promotion starting November 26 to 5th December 2021. All our products will be sold at factory prices.”

The awards, which was organised by Globe Productions in partnership with the Institute of Directors (IoD), Nobel International Business School (NiBS), Ipag Business School, Swiss Business School, and the Lincoln University with support from the Graphic Communications Group Limited and Media General, sought to promote business excellence nationally and internationally, as well as provide an unparalleled opportunity for networking among industry players.

The 4th Ghana Business Awards recognized and rewarded excellence across all sectors of industry in Ghana, and provided the platform for individuals and companies that played significant roles in the growth and development of the business sector.

It also promoted open dialogue between relevant stakeholders in public and private sectors on adopting the right strategies to stimulate post-Covid-19 economic recovery and ensure a future of hope and shared prosperity for all Ghanaians.

Themed ‘The Digital Economy, Making More Winners’, with a team of technical expertise (Awarding Board) and independent consultants, the award categories were modeled to recognise important commercial and industrial players that contribute significantly to the economy.

Latif Abubakar, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the organisers of the awards, Globe Productions, said the awards are a benchmark of excellence. He explained that the benchmarks for shortlisted nominees’ performance were based on key performance indicators (KPIs) in the standards of excellence, including information technology and competitive pricing.

From restaurants to bodegas, each episode explores an iconic dish through unfiltered conversations with tastemakers, cultural experts, and neighborhood icons like Questlove and Black Thought, Von Diaz, and A$AP Ferg.
After choppin’ it up on the block with guests, the chefs of Ghetto Gastro take their recipes back into the kitchen to lead listeners in a hands-on cooking demo with their signature spin. So grab a plate, take a seat and get your ears ready to feast—with Ghetto Gastro everybody eats.
Ghetto Gastro has found mainstream success across genres. They also launched their namesake consumer goods brand of pantry items inspired by ancestral ingredients. In February 2022, Ghetto Gastro partnered with Wolfgang Puck for the iconic Oscars Governors Ball, the first time in 26 years that Puck brought on a collaborator. They have since produced culinary experiences for Coachella, Spotify, BottleRock Napa, Diageo, Audemars Piguet, Nike x Sacai and more.
Episode 1: Chopped Cheese
Let me get a chopped cheese, salt, pepper, ketchup please! Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter roll up to the Ghetto Gastro table to test if the Uptown-born Chopped Cheese sandwich has the ability to win the hearts of the two Philly expats and cheesesteak lovers. Later, Jon, P and Les head to the lab to cook for you their version of the hood favorite, “The Chopped Stease.”
Episode 2: Mofongo
Jon, Pierre and Les explore the relationship of African-descended and Latino cultures in and beyond NYC with cookbook author and scholar Von Diaz. Inspired by their conversation, the guys hit the lab to make some “Mofongones”- a dish made from a combination of plantain cooking techniques enjoyed throughout the Latin America-diaspora.
Episode 3: NY Slice
On this episode of In the Cut, Ghetto Gastro explores how NY pizza has a flavor and style all its own; join the guys in discussing how the dish has evolved from the Italian pie into something wholly New York. Jon, Pierre and Les talk about their favorite spots in town, and interview Dominican chef Scarr Pimentel of Scarr’s Pizza, who mills his own grains every day for sensational, delicious slices. As an homage to NY, the guys take you into the lab to cook you up a pie with bubbling mozzarella and gorgeous San Marzano tomatoes.
Episode 4: Sea Moss
Health is wealth! NYC – and the Bronx in particular – is home to some of the largest communities of Caribbean people outside of the region, and it’s common to find Caribbean sea moss gels sold in juice bars or even beauty shops throughout the hood. Now popping up in luxury grocery stores, Jon, P and Les chat with Jon’s mom, Denise Lee, about sea moss and its benefits as well as how to make your local community healthier. Using Denise’s tips, the guys whip you up their own Moss Boss smoothie, designed to jump start your day and make it pop.
Episode 5: Hood Chinese
On this episode, Ghetto Gastro celebrates the influence of Chinese cuisine on American culture with founder and CEO of Fly by Jing, Jing Gao. After, the guys step into the kitchen to cook up another GG original, General Tso’s Cauliflower.
Episode 6: Twerk ‘n’ Jerk
Join Ghetto Gastro as they give us a rundown on NY’s iconic Jamaican Jerk Chicken. They mix it up with rapper and Bronx native, A$AP Ferg as he speaks to his experience with Jerk chicken and what makes it sing. Later, the guys pull up to the kitchen and share their very own GG jerk dish.
Episode 7: NYC Ice
Summer is here! Jon, P and Les chat about summertime staples, with good friend, food writer and NY native, Osayi Endolyn. Then the boys enter the lab, aka the kitchen, to crush some ice, mix some flavors and make their very own Watermelon Granita.
Episode 8: Everybody Eats
In the season finale of In the Cut with Ghetto Gastro, Jon, P and Les discuss the importance of food, activism and power with New York City’s Time Out Woman of the Year, Carolina Savereda. Later, they hit the kitchen and talk about how the Black Panthers Community Services Program inspired one of their most famous dishes to date, the Black Power Waffle.

Samsung Galaxy’s epic camera gives users more freedom to explore their creativity, like capturing truly cinematic Nightography videos with transformative AI.

On the Galaxy S23 Ultra, an embedded S Pen that many long-time Samsung Galaxy users know and love offers more possibilities for productivity, notetaking, hobbies and more. All the Galaxy S23 series’ new standard-setting innovations are housed within a striking design that advances Samsung’s sustainability commitment with more recycled materials than any other Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

Galaxy S23 PR main3

“The most impactful technology is measured, not just by what it enables for people today, but also how it contributes to a better future,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “Galaxy S23 Ultra and the entire Galaxy S series lineup are the new standard-bearers of a trustworthy premium smartphone experience. We’re redefining peak performance by merging power and lasting innovation in devices that have less environmental impact.”

Secure and private experiences are the foundation of the Galaxy S23 series. Every smartphone comes with Samsung’s end-to-end Samsung Knox protection, which has received more government and industry certifications than any other mobile device, platform, or solution on the market.

The Galaxy S23 series comes in four nature-inspired matte hues: Phantom Black, Cream, Green and Lavender.

Starting on February 2, 2023, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 will be available for pre-order in all authorized retail outlets.

What are Lace Front Wigs?

Wigs with lace fronts are wigs with a lace cap attached to the front of the wig. The lace cap is designed to mimic the look of a natural hairline and give the appearance of real hair growing from the scalp.

The hair on the wig is then attached to the lace cap to create a seamless and natural-looking hairline.

Advantages of Lace Front Wigs

  1. Natural Look

One of the most significant advantages of lace front wigs is the natural look they provide. The lace cap is designed to mimic the look of a natural hairline, which gives the appearance of real hair growing from the scalp. This makes the wig look more natural and realistic, which is perfect for anyone who wants to look their best.

  1. Easy to Style

Lace front wigs are also very easy to style. They come pre-styled, so you can put them on and go. They can also be styled to suit different occasions and outfits. Anyone who wants to change their look frequently without the hassle of daily styling.

  1. Versatile

Lace front wigs are also very versatile. They come in different lengths, textures, and colors, depending on your style and preferences. This makes them perfect for anyone who wants to try different hairstyles without damaging their hair.

  1. Convenient

Lace-front wigs are also very convenient. They are easy to put on and take off, so you can switch from one style to another in minutes. This is perfect for anyone who wants flawless hair every day without the hassle of daily styling.

  1. Low Maintenance

Lace front wigs are also low maintenance. Unlike natural hair, they do not require daily styling, washing, or conditioning. This makes them perfect for anyone who wants to look their best without spending hours on their hair.

Caring tips for Lace Front Wigs?

  1. Handle with Care:

Handle your lace front wig gently, as rough handling can cause tangles, matting, and damage to the hair.

  1. Store Properly:

Use a wig stand or mannequin head to keep your wig in shape and prevent tangling.

  1. Avoid Heat:

Avoid using hot tools like flat irons, curling wands, and blow dryers in high heat settings, as this can damage the hair. If you must use heat, use a heat protectant spray first.

  1. Wash Infrequently:

Wash your lace front wig infrequently, as over-washing can damage the hair and strip it of its natural oils.

  1. Use Gentle Products:

Use gentle, sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners to clean and nourish the hair. Avoid using heavy styling products that can weigh down the hair.

  1. Dye Carefully:

If you want to dye your wig, take it to a professional for proper care. Dyeing the wig at home can cause damage and affect the hair’s texture and quality.

  1. Detangle Gently:

Detangle your wig gently, starting from the ends and working to the roots. Wig brushes or wide-toothed combs can prevent tangling.

  1. Trim Regularly:

Trim the hair on your wig regularly to maintain its shape and prevent split ends.

  1. Avoid Tight Styles:

Avoid tight hairstyles, like braids, buns, and ponytails, as they can cause tangling, matting, and damage to the hair.

  1. Seek Professional Help:

If you need help with caring for your lace front wig, seek professional help. A wig stylist can advise you on your specific wig’s best care and maintenance practices.

Your clientele can continue watching their favourite shows/channels whenever they are on the road for business or stop by your office, hotel, or pub. DStv For Business has a tailored package to suit your business size and pocket so you can have the best working moments with DStv.”

MultiChoice Ghana continues to improve its service offerings over time, with the addition of consultancy service for High-rise buildings, multiple user dwelling on how DStv can be installed. The DStv For Business unit can advise on countless options to ensure the incorporation of either our IPTV service or other alternatives to a seamless and cost-effective TV entertainment solution to your high rise or estate project. According to the Managing Director, MultiChoice Ghana, Alex Okyere, the business is all about the customer’s experience, and the greatest motivation for his team is to offer more value for money to not just our domestic users but commercial users.

DStv For Business has three main offers; DStv Work, DStv Play and DStv Stay. Each package is tailored to suit the needs of offices, bars, clubs, restaurants, hotels and so on. The essence of this, Kelvin Kamasa explains, is to tailor content to specific customers to enhance their viewing experience. Instead of having to watch a wide array of content, these DStv For Business packages now give you what you want based on business customers’ needs and preferences.

The DStv Work package offers the latest news headlines from around the world, sports, weather updates and other work-related entertainment. The goal here is to set the tone for a stimulating work environment and keep everyone well informed. The Work packages are best suited for offices, banks, and other corporate organizations.

The DStv Stay packages are suited for hotels, motels, lodges, resorts, Air BnB’s and serviced apartments. Giving each guest whether a kid, adult or elderly a memorable in-room experience during their stay.

One important feature is that these packages they can be tailored to customers’ budget. This means that customers can enjoy entertainment at a certain threshold which is a unique offer. For less than Ghs 170, one can enjoy several channels. For instance, the DStv Stay (Basic), offers customers an array of entertainment with more than ten channels spanning sports, news, kiddies’ channel, and music with just GHs77.

Businesses also have the flexibility of choosing a package that perfectly suits your business model without worrying about not having the popular channels needed by customers. From small entrepreneurs to 5-star hotels, multinational corporations and government agencies, every business has something that works for them.

For hotels, their customers get a mix of carefully selected movies, music, and sports channels as well as documentary channels. This is the same for a financial establishment where customers are more concerned about the latest updates from the financial sector and latest news over that of a music or movie channel like Akwaaba Magic Abusua and ROK Gh. Similarly,  fast-food joints, pubs and clubs will be in tune with Trace Jama, Akwaaba Magic, SuperSports channels over National Geographic Channel or News channels.
