Tribute Night held in honour of Mr.Ibu ahead of Final Funeral Rites
A touching tribute event was organized on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 in Enugu State to honor the late Nollywood legend, John Okafor, fondly known as Mr. Ibu.
The tribute ceremony, graced by prominent personalities such as Charles Anwurum and Victor Osuagwu, was a somber affair where colleagues, friends, and family members paid their respects.
They fondly recalled Mr. Ibu’s influential career and his unmatched, irreplaceable presence on the screen.
During her tribute, Mr. Ibu’s spouse reflected on the hardships they faced during his illness.
“I am feeling so sad that I am not with my husband here. I am not happy at all after all the efforts and sufferings we went through to save his life.
āI donāt know what to say! Where do I start from? Itās so painful seeing my husband cry like a baby with me, saying āOh first class, is this me?ā I was watching my husband crying and gnashing his teeth. I was in the hospital with himā she said.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria also honored Mr. Ibu’s irreplaceable persona, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to the industry and the happiness he brought to millions.
Mr. Ibu’s funeral is scheduled for Friday, June 28th, marking three months since his passing. His demise has created a significant void in the Nollywood community and among his admirers, who continue to commemorate his legacy and the joy he brought to countless individuals.

Kofi Asamoah selected for professional exchange program managed through the US Department of State
Ghanaian award-winning filmmaker and Creative Director, Kofi Asamoah, has been nominated and selected by the U.S. Embassy in Accra to participate in a professional exchange program managed through the US Department of State in partnership with Meridian International Center and UNESCO.
The fully funded program entitled, āIntellectual Property Best Practices for Creative Entrepreneurs and Policy Makersā, takes 8 individuals from Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana and CĆ“te dāIvoire to the United States for a two-week program, June 22 to July 3, 2024. The program will travel to DC, Atlanta and LA focusing on meeting with experts in the creative industry, specifically film and music, as well as have a dedicated focus on copyright law and application.
The Department of State has outlined the following specific objectives for the project:
ā¢ Exchange best practices with U.S. policymakers, at the state and local levels, to improve the operating environment, drive employment growth, and attract global investment into their local creative markets;
ā¢ Examine the creative industriesā infrastructure and business ecosystem; with input from IP experts, film and recording studios, industry associations, and other thought leaders; and
ā¢ Gain exposure to key business tools used by members of the creative economy to scale work globally.
Kofi Asamoah, who is also CEO of Kofas Media, describes the opportunity as ‘ golden ‘. In a Facebook post, he thanked The US Embassy in Accra and The US department of state for recognizing the need to impact the local Creative ecosystem.
