Who You Know Wins You Awards In Ghana – Moses OK
One of Ghana’s renowned Gospel artistes, Moses Osei Kwarteng, who is well known in the music fraternity and beyond as Moses OK has divulged that winning an award in the country usually depends on the relationship the artiste has with the selection committee.
According to him, a lot of musicians are awarded not based on merit but “who you know” syndrome which has affected the likes of him being ignored for any award.
The ‘Adom Awura’ hitmaker in an interview on Kessben TV’s “Around Town” emphasized that his comments were not mere allegations but based on personal experiences over the years.
The musician, who doubles as a song writer further described how he was overlooked for an honour that he confidently believed deserved but could not pursue it since he didn’t know anyone on the selection board to fight for his interest.

In the words of Moses, “Our award schemes are such that, if you do not have your people there (those who make the final choice) who speak on your behalf, it will be very hard for you to receive the award.
“I’ve been nominated numerous times; however, despite the fact that everyone knew I was the most deserving of the award for the first nomination, I was ultimately unsuccessful in winning it. Even my opponents knew I should have won, but I lost instead. Despite this, I learned to disregard it and carry on with my life,” he revealed.
Moses OK lamented about how he has never won any award and yet has been a great contributor to the growth of Ghana’s music industry.

“Considering the I have made in the music industry and doing everything right in my musical career, I haven’t received any awards in Ghana,” he stated.
However, Moses opined that he is unconcerned by the situation since he is focused on his mission of sharing the gospel to positively impact lives. “My primary goal is to spread the gospel through my music ministry, not to earn awards,” he indicated.
