Wizkid and Tems win at American Music Awards

Nigerian Afro-beats icon, Wizkid has made history by becoming the first performer to win the Favourite Afrobeats Artiste category at the American Music Awards.

For the first time, the Favorite Afrobeats Artiste category was included at the event’s 50th anniversary, which took place on Sunday, November 2, 2022, at Microsoft Theater in California.

Wizkid had to compete against other Nigerian artists for the novel award, including Burna Boy, CKay, Fireboy DML, and Tems.

Future’s “Wait for You,” on which Temilade Openiyi of Nigeria, better known by her stage name Tems, collaborated with Drake, also won Favorite Hip-Hop Song.
