Chet AnekweAward-winning US-based Nigerian actor, Chet Anekwe is expected to join Africa’s A-List of actors and film makers for the 2012 African Movie Academy Awards scheduled for April 22 in Lagos, Nigeria, where he would compete with the likes of Menzi Ngubane, Majid Micheal, Jafta Mamabolo, Karabo Lance, Wale Ojo, and Hakeem Kae-Kazim for the Best Actor in a Leading Role gong. While the talented actor received his AMAA nomination for his role in the movie ‘Unwanted Guest’, his sterling performance in the movie, TOBI, which is expected to premiere in Nigeria on May 18, has equally earned him rave reviews. The excited actor comments on both developments: “It was a much unexpected but amazingly pleasant surprise! I am deeply and truly honored by the nomination! For the Nigerian premiere of TOBI, movie lovers should expect a wonderfully directed movie with a great story and wonderful performances.” Chet Anekwe who also played a prominent role in Monique’s ‘Phat Girls’ will be joined by other American and Nigerian stars on the red carpet of the official premiere of TOBI at the Ozone Cinema in Lagos, Nigeria. TOBI revolves around the life of 21-year-old Tobi Akinola who deviates from his upright upbringing to give in to the lures of a gangster life.  When a grave mistake occurs on the streets, his brother, an outstanding lawyer is torn between loyalty to his dream firm and defending Tobi. Emmanuel Ijeh, producer of the movie, has assured that plans are in top gear to ensure that the Nigerian premiere of TOBI lives up to expectation in every sphere. TOBI was premiered at Tribeca Cinemas in the United States last year and has done very well; with some veterans in the cinematic field showering encomium on Ijeh. TOBI unveils a mix of Nigerians, Americans and Hispanic actors including Mark Lavan Williams, Jimmy Allen, Chisom Oz Lee, Arturo Castro, Patrick Dean and Elizabeth Ness.]]>
