Bring back “Group of the Year” category; it’s what we stand for- DopeNation to VGMA board

Ghanaian music duo, DopeNation, have expressed their disappointment at the board of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) decision to take out the “Group of the year” category from the award scheme.

According to the duo, the‘‘Group of the year’’ is what they stand for, and they’re not happy about it been ruled out of the award scheme.

“We are twins, we are a group; that is what we stand for. So musically, when you take that category off, you take away our recognition and what we stand for,’’ they said.

Over the last three years, the ‘‘Group of the year’’ category has been ruled out of prestigious award scheme. Dope Nation has however, called for a review of the decision.

“We are sure they have tangible reasons for that, but they should also look at it from our point of view.”

Dope Nation, who have churned out hits after hits, expressed how disappointing it is to be recognised as a group outside of the country and not at home.

“It really hurts when another country has an award scheme and they nominate us as a group and we have to fly there to represent the country as a group. Meanwhile, back in our home (Ghana), we don’t have a group category,” they stated.
