Ghana Says Goodbye to Glovo as Operations End Tonight

Well-known on-demand delivery platform, Glovo will cease operations in Ghana tonight at 10:00 pm.

This comes after the delivery giant made an unexpected announcement to stakeholders last month, citing high operational costs and revenue shortfalls as key reasons for its withdrawal.

Despite significant investments made over the past two years to expand its services, Glovo has faced challenges in achieving profitability within the Ghanaian market.

The company communicated its exit from Ghana to its network of restaurant partners via email. It cited the difficulty in attaining profitability as the primary reason for its decision to withdraw from the country.

As of 10 p.m. on May 10, 2024, the Glovo app would cease to accept orders in Ghana. Moreover, outstanding payments owed to restaurant partners will be settled by the terms and conditions agreed upon.

Glovo intends to redirect its focus towards strengthening its presence in other African markets with more promising growth prospects, such as Morocco, Uganda, Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria.

This strategic shift reflects Glovo’s commitment to reassessing its investment priorities and realigning its strategic direction. By reallocating resources to regions with greater potential for success, Glovo aims to enhance operational efficiency and maximize returns on investment.

Despite the closure of its operations in Ghana, Glovo expressed gratitude to its partners and customers for their support throughout its tenure in the country. The company acknowledged the contributions of its stakeholders and valued the relationships forged during its time in the Ghanaian market.
