Multiple award-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter, David Adeleke, popular known as Davido has expressed gratitude for the introduction of the Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys, attributing it to God’s timing.
During a recent interview with France 24, the ‘Feel’ hitmaker was asked about his views on the addition of an African music category at the Grammys, to which he replied, âItâs all in Godâs timing.â
The host asked, âWhat do you think about this new category, the Best African Music Performance that has now been added to the Grammys, late to the party or right on time?â
âGodâs timing is the best. African music has been dominant for years. So if youâre asking me if we should have gotten recognition since, yeah, definitely. But things take time. As I said, Godâs timing is the best,” he responded.
The Grammy nominee continued by saying ,”I am really happy about this new category, not just for myself but my fellow nominees. Itâs very beautiful given that people back home can make African music and win a Grammy. Thatâs really amazing to see. So I would say Godâs timing, I wouldnât say late,â
Davido has been nominated in three categories for the 2024 Grammy Awards. This is the first time the Nigerian artiste has been nominated for the coveted awards.
His âFeelâ song has been nominated for Best Global Music Performance, âUnavailableâ is up for Best African Music Performance and his 2023 album âTimelessâ is nominated for Best Global Music Album.
