After three keenly contested rounds of singing and exciting hundreds of Senior Secondary School students and parents at the National Theatre in Accra, the adorable final year student of Holy Child School, Jessie knocked out the competition to win Musicmania- the first high school singing competition.
Jessie beat 13 other talented finalists from schools in the Greater Accra, Central, Eastern and Volta regions to become the Ghana’s first Youth Peace Icon. It was a night of glitz, glamour and splendour as the contestants despite their age, showcased true professionalism on stage. Jessie, who had earlier been tipped as the crowds’ favourite, by way of their cheers, and the other contestants gave the audience their money’s worth as they came on stage one after the other. They each ‘brought it on’ with creativity and dynamism. The night was also spiced up with some guest performances from the likes of Dr Cryme, Fritz, Stammy and others
The contest became soon turned into a battle between Jessie and Sylvia as the latter also received some great cheers. When the moment of truth arrived, MCs Giovani Caleb and Barbara Gyasi kept up the suspense by having a little fun with the emotions of the audience. The 4 finalists got nervy as the top three were announced. After Sylvia was announced as the 1st runner-up, Dre, who was left standing with Jessie accepted defeat even before the latter was declared winner. Dre, the only male in the Top 4 said he believed Jessie would win because she was the better of the two.
There was a thunderous cheer, screams and applause from the audience, a sign of agreement with the judges’ decision. The winner receives a cash amount, prizes, music lessons which will help her come out eventually as a singer, among other opportunities.
