I Disagree With Some Of The Words In Traditional Marriage Vows – Minister OJ

Marriage vows are an integral part of every wedding ceremony, representing the promises and commitments that couples make to each other. However, one of Ghana’s renowned gospel crooners and minister of God, Michael Oware Sakyi, also known as OJ disagrees with some of the words commonly included in traditional marriage vows.

According to the ‘Adom ne Odo’ hitmaker, every to be couple must enquire from their counsellors or pastors, who wrote the marriage vows usually said by couples during the wedding ceremony.

He continued by asserting  that some of the words in the vows are not good and therefore needs to be reviewed.

“Some of the words are good and some of them are not which I disagree completely and totally. One particular phrase that often stands out to me is the line “till death do us part.” While I understand the sentiment behind it, I believe it places unnecessary pressure on couples and fails to acknowledge the reality of marriage and the word ‘worse’ isn’t something that should come to mind,” he noted.

Additionally, he finds the phrase “in richer and in poorer” somewhat problematic. While it is admirable to stand by your partner during challenging times, it is not worth it to think about poverty as God provides good things.

OJ revealed that he and his wife recited their own personal vows to each other emphasizing that those words still rings in his year and head.

He further urged to be couples to recite their own vows without any negative words.
