Kweci Kay To Unveil Christmas Banger, “Joo” With Medikal
Ghana’s fastest rising and sensational hip-life and afrobeats artiste, Kweci Kay, formerly known as Don Flick, is set to release his highly anticipated new single “Joo” which features top notch rapper Medikal on 26 November, 2021 across all digital platforms.
The much awaited release of “Joo” follows the unstoppable success of the recent single “Amen” which features Obibini and released in May earlier this year.
“Joo”, which reveals the growth, versatility and fun side of the budding artiste, is the anthem for this year’s Christmas celebrations. Kweci Kay is signed on to Daff Entertainment and the song is produced by Wavboy.
Ghana’s fresh sensation, Kweci Kay, is infusing highlife vocals and sweet harmonies into contemporary hiplife, hip hop and afrobeats rhythms- creating a unique brand of conscious music and expressive songs that uplifts and inspires. His playful yet introspective melodic style reflects his love for Highlife and Afrobeats. His belief is that a well written song can embody all emotions of the human existence, and he articulates that beautifully with his slightly raspy yet warm voice and truthful lyrics.
Born Godfred Ampomah Amanor to Kate Asante and the late Samuel Amanor on December 7, 1997, Kweci Kay is a Ghanaian hiplife and afrobeats singer-songwriter who is originally from Krobo Odumase in the Eastern region but was raised in Dansoman Otodjor. He received his basic education at Emmanuel International School and Dansoman 1 Junior High School and continued to Ada Senior High/Technical School for his second cycle education completing in 2015.
As a youngster, Kweci Kay loved listening to good music and his surroundings made it easy for that love to thrive. With established recording studios and top notch artistes thronging the Dansoman neighbourhood for recordings, Kweci Kay began writing songs and hung around these studios to fraternise with the big wigs on the music scene.
To take music professionally, he recorded his first demo in 2008 with Emoh Records. The track, which was a fusion of rap and hooks on a hip hop beat, enjoyed a considerable amount of airplay. This feat encouraged him to write more songs but lack of financial support prevented him from recording more songs. He also had a wonderful opportunity of performing on the same stage of DC Homecoming Festival, a street carnival held at Dansoman, with Samini, Stonebwoy and Ex-Doe.
In 2012, Kweci Kay joined the bandwagon and participated in TV3’s Talented Kids Show, a TV program for kids to showcase their talents but he could not make the cut for the finals. That didn’t deter him; he went on, that same year, to take part in TV Africa’s Amazing Child, another kids’ talent show where this time around he picked the 3rd runner up slot.
Currently, Kweci Kay is signed to Daff Entertainment and out with two hot spanking singles; “Amen” featuring Obibini (released May 2021) and “Joo” featuring Medikal (released November 2021). He has performed three times on the DC Homecoming Festival, two Y Fm’s Area Code shows and gone on a tour with TV Africa’s Amazing Child Show in Kumasi. Kweci Kay plans to build a long, successful career on music that matters.
