It will be recalled that The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), in September 2023, announced an increment of the cost of its renal dialysis from GHS¢380 to GHS¢765.42. The news broke the hearts of many, especially those who rely on dialysis to survive, with some taking to their social media to lament over the new price. However, Upon hearing the news, the church decided to intervene and offer financial support to these patients.

The donation was done on behalf of the church by the wife of Dr Michael Boadi Nyamekye, Lady Yaa Achiaa Boadi alongside some other leaders of the church. Speaking during the presentation at the KBTH, Lady Yaa Achiaa made known that she and her husband have had personal encounters with a few people, specifically families of dialysis patients and the patients themselves with most of them seeking support for their treatment. She further noted that this touched them and they decided together with the entire church to embark on this project.

”I personally have had a few people come up to me to tell me how their families are struggling to pay up and all of that. And our Papa has had a first hand encounter with some of the family of the patients and the leadership of the church occasionally we talk about….you know, just the way forward to help with some of the societal issues. So this came up and we just gathered ourselves and we are here,” she said.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of KBTH, Dr Opoku Ware Ampomah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the hospital, expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the church and the church as a whole for their immense support to the unit.

Dr Louis Agyemang Siriboe, head of the renal unit at the 37 Military, also thanked the church and its leadership for the donation and assured them that the hospital will put the many into good use. He further assured the church that the hospital will put the money to good use
