My collaboration with Sarkodie was ‘one of a kind’ for me- Cina Soul
Ghanaian singer and songwriter, Christie Quincyna Quarcoopome, popularly known as Cina Soul has shared her experience working with Ghana’s most decorated rapper Sarkodie.
In an interview with Adesope live on the Afrobeats podcast, Cina Soul expressed how she immediately responded when Ghana’s ‘King’ Sarkodie reached out to her for a feature on a song.
‘‘When the king calls, you have to deliver and you have to deliver ASAP. I think he probably sent the song today, he probably got it by evening and that’s how fast I wanted to work for the king,” she stated.
Narrating her first encounter with the “Country Side” hitmaker, she said;
“The first time I met Sarkodie, I was in the secondary school and he came to perform in my school, Aburi Girls, and his little cousin was in that school and she knew I loved him and she was like, ‘do you want to meet him’? and I’m like yes, so I was literally the only artist to get the opportunity to go backstage to shake hands with Sarkodie and that was the very first time I met him.

Fast forward, Sarkodie calls me, they sent me the song and I was like I am about to kill it, I racked my brain, different melodies came and finally the final one we hear today came and I’m like this is the one and I remember I called my manager and I told him, listen I have an idea, and he said if I have an idea, lets go to the studio this evening right now, so we rushed to the studio and that was it.”
Cina Soul disclosed that even though she believed the verse she had delivered was good, she was still ready for negative feedback and ready to try again and again to get it up to the Sarkodie’s standard.
‘‘The next day I got a call, ‘Cina you killed it’ and I was like, thank you Jesus, because it could get rejected and I was ready for that, I was like okay whatever happens if he says no I’ll do it again and I didn’t feel like oh this is the one and he’s going to love it, I didn’t give myself that, I knew the verse was good but he is still the king, he has experience, he knows what he wants to hear already so when I got the feedback that he loved it, I was like,’’ Cina stated.
Cina Soul further mentioned some African artists she would love to do a song with; ‘‘I love Burna boy, he is a great vocalist,’’ she said.
“Wizkid, Ayra Starr, Simi and plenty Ghanaian artistes, Stonebwoy, and I have a song with Efia but it is not ready, Black Sherrif,” she added.
