Shatta Wale cancels Freedom Wave Concert amid clash with Stonebwoy

Award-winning Ghanaian Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, along with his management team, has officially called off the highly anticipated Freedom Wave Concert, originally slated to be held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, December 25, 2023.

The cancellation decision stems from a clash of dates and venue with fellow artist Stonebwoy, who had announced his Bhim concert for Friday, December 22, just days before Shatta Wale’s scheduled event.

Shatta Wale expressed his displeasure at the stadium management’s decision to grant Stonebwoy permission to host his concert at the venue Shatta had already booked and successfully used for his shows over the past two years. In a Facebook Live session, Shatta Wale accused Stonebwoy of attempting to undermine his concert, allegedly with support from the stadium authorities.

One of Shatta Wale’s key concerns was that the interval days between Stonebwoy’s show and his own were insufficient. He had been informed by sports authorities that a minimum of three days was required for proper setup of his concert. Although the issue appeared to have been resolved following Shatta Wale’s concerns and subsequent responses from Stonebwoy’s team and the Director of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi, Shatta Wale has ultimately decided to cancel the Freedom Wave Concert.

Sammy Flex, Shatta Wale’s manager, confirmed the cancellation, stating that there were no alternative plans to relocate the event to a different venue unless they received a positive response from the National Sports Authority (NSA). The future of this annual concert now rests on the outcome of discussions with the NSA.
