Song promotion is expensive these days, you need to have a big budget or forget it- Kofi Kinaata

Ghanaian highlife artist, Kofi Kinaata has disclosed that despite his success in the music space, he still has to pay a lot of money to get his music on the airwaves.

Speaking in a recent interview with Graphic showbiz, he explained that promoting music has become such a herculean task, as it requires a lot of funds.

“I can say on authority that promoting songs is a big deal now. If you don’t pay, forget about your songs getting any airtime. You can have the nicest song but without money to push it, just forget about it. This has been going on for a while and my colleagues will bear me out that it is not easy at all.

“We virtually have to pay for all the hit songs you hear on radio and TV. In fact, you need to have a big budget for promotion anytime you release a song,” he said.

Kofi Kinaata, who is currently promoting his new reggae song titled “Effiakuma love,” stated that he wanted to try something different, hence the decision to try reggae.

“I wanted to try something different from the usual use of Patios when doing Reggae songs. I wanted to use Fante and the comments I am getting are massive. The DJs play it a lot and I see loads of people doing videos with the song. The reception has been great,” he added.
