The creative space is expensive- Sarkodie defends GHC 100,000 spent on 3-minute GEPA documentary
Multiple award-winning rapper, Sarkodie, has defended GHC 100,000 payment for a 3-minute documentary.
Yesterday, a page dedicated to recording crimes in government, Ghana Crimes, on Twitter reported that the CEO of Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Afia Asabea Asare spent Gh¢100,000(1Billion) on 3-minutes video documentary about her management.
According to Ghana Crimes, “the contract which was awarded to Yaw Pare Photography was through Sole-Source.”
The news of the contract and the amount involved, started a conversation on Twitter as users argued if the GEPA CEO had over spent on the documentary and vice versa.

Sarkodie, who saw the conversation online, waded in, expressing that indeed, it is possible for a 3-minute documentary to cost such an amount.
According to Sarkodie, although he’s not privy to evidence from GEPA about cost, his experience as a creative suggests that indeed, it costs a whopping amount to produce content of any kind in the creative industry.
“Don’t know the details and if there’s evidence that she lied then thats a problem but if people are doubting a 3 minute doc could cost that much, then y’all need some education… my tour “announcement” video not doc or music video was close to that amount ( of course camera, concept etc will play part ) our space ( creative industry ) is very expensive,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, Sarkodie’s tweet defending the cost of the documentary, has generated a lot of reactions on Twitter.
Many users have criticised him for defending a government project that was sole-sourced.
Public Procurement laws of Ghana does not recognise sole sourcing but single sourcing which is clearly captured in Section 40(1) (a) and Section 41 of the Act.
See some reactions to Sarkodie’s tweet below;
You only come out when it goes against your useless npp government to defend. Invest in your craft to appeal to the International community and stop your unnecessary politicking.
Didn't you see “sole sourcing”? I don't blame you because you are empty tho you portray yourself as…— KOJO DYNAMIC 𓃵 (@AnnanPerry) November 7, 2023
Here we go, he is here to defend his crooked party’s criminality with bollocks rhetorics
The mode of the contract (Sole-Source) which is against our procurement laws is a crime
Go and sit down 😤

You make defending you so difficult of late. Your tour announcement video was meant to put you out there and help generate income for you. How does a documentary about the management of a state institution generate revenue for the state? And did you see the sole source part?
