Listen UP: T$oko Shares Double A-Side alongside ‘OverKiLL

Prolific Western Australian hip-hop artist T$oko has released a Double A-side, ‘Level Up’/’6k’, alongside a series of lost files titled OverKiLL. Keen to release the large quantity of music he has been sitting on, the drop is what T$oko labels ‘a prelude’ to his upcoming project.
OverKiLL features production from JuiceBangers (Cobra Music Group), Stro Elliot (The Roots), Willie B (Digi+Phonics – Top Dawg Entertainment) and Dr Dundiff (Jakarta Records).
T$oko details; ‘OverKiLL is a mini compilation/collection of material which I recorded which didn’t make the my upcoming project. Over the years, I have been recording tons of music as well as collaborating with some amazing producers and have heaps more to share in the next year or two’.
Speaking on lead singles ‘Level Up’ and ‘6K’, T$oko elaborates; ‘Level Up was produced by JuiceBangers (of the Grammy Award Winning Cobra Music Group). He produced my track ‘Ben Simmons’ and this is from the same collection of beats. 6K was produced by Willie B. It was an honour to work with these well respected guys on this record. This is why I had throw it up for Perth on this one. 6000 is the postcode for Perth and this song is an ode to celebrating the city.’

Hailing from Harare, Zimbabwe, T$oko was destined to confute stigmas associated to impervious cultural restraints and draw on profound exposure from his musically diversified household. Coupled with tutoring of practical music awareness in formative school years; T$oko became acquainted with an aptitude to write – often harnessing the energy and dynamics of peers whom shared this propensity. Evoking honourable recognition among those familiar with T$oko’s music; he is garnered by admirable acclaim as a credible solo artist within the notoriously competitive Perth music scene. Exhibiting spirited determination to connect with his audience on a personal level, T$oko proves his own mastery – eluding conformity of mainstream commercialism and establishing a refreshing uniqueness. T$oko’s approach actively supports and demonstrates equality to all artists, by reassuring abolishment of unnecessary discontinuity rivalled by dissimilar musical interests. He advocates music be devoid of judgement and suppression, instead instilling and maintaining its rich legacy through existing reciprocation between artists shared affinity for music.
T$oko’s debut track ‘Blasphemy/Mirror’ dropped in mid-2017, later accompanied by a double release of ‘Fourth Quarter’ and ‘Hakuna Matata’ which gained support from triple j and triple j Unearthed. February 2018 saw T$oko announced as the winner of the triple j Unearthed Laneway Festival Competition. triple j Unearthed also dubbed T$oko an artist to ‘watch out for in 2018’, as well as one of their ‘top 5 independent hip-hop artists in Australia at the moment’.
2019 undoubtedly showcased the tenacity, spirit and flawless workmanship of an undisputed artist, rising to new challenges and exceeding his musical parameters with a stellar triple j ‘Bars Of Steel’ appearance and a few international shows in Singapore. Over the course of his impressive career, T$oko has supported the likes of Wale, Metro Booming, Tyga, Madentyo and Lil Wayne at the sold-out Jumanji Festival in Melbourne and Sydney.
This year, T$oko has featured on American platform No Jumper and released his debut EP TIME. T$oko season is always in full effect!

Adomaa Makes Return To Music; Announces ‘The Becoming Adomaa Experience’

After a successful foray into the world of acting, alternative artist and singer Adomaa is back on the music scene, with a haunting but heartfelt music video announcing her new EP: ‘Becoming Adomaa.’
The video, which is for the song titled ‘You Used To Love Me,’ sees Adomaa reminisce on her entry into the music scene – when she had the most public attention – and how she wishes she had gone about navigating that period for herself. It is a brief but poignant reflection, and gives a sneak peak into the mindset of the singer at one of the lowest points in her career.
The video ends with the revelation of the cover art for her upcoming EP, titled ‘Becoming Adomaa’ – Adomaa seen in contemplative stance in an obviously neglected room overgrown with plants, and filled with objects of significance to her music career.
Before the release of the EP later this year, Adomaa is curating a one-of-a-kind experience for audiences to mark her musical comeback. Starting in July and running till September, she will be hosting on multiple nights, screenings of a short film featuring music from the EP, as well as a documentary that takes a deep dive into events from her start in music, through her disappearance and now to her return.
In addition to these, she will be providing intimate performances of songs from the EP live each night, after which there will be interactive sessions with audiences. This series of events has been tagged ‘Becoming Adomaa: The Experience,’ and the nights promise to be incredibly special, enthralling and deeply engaging.

CALYPSO ROSE Shares Carlos Santana-featured Track “Watina”

Calypso Rose’s zest for life is as infectious as ever, and 2022 will mark the return of the icon to center stage. Today, the 82-year old Trinidad and Tobago-raised musician has announced her latest album, FOREVER, due August 26, 2022 via Because Music. Throughout the new album, Rose presents original material with a distinctly modern approach, and revisits some of her greatest classics, giving us an album that speaks to everyone and transcends all ages. On FOREVER, the Queen of Calypso is joined by old friends and new artists throughout the fourteen tracks including: world music legend Manu Chao, soca king Machel Montano, Jamaican dancehall icon Mr. Vegas, Toulouse-based rapper Oli, and electro duo Synapson. The album’s first single, “Watina” is out now and features Belize’s The Garifuna Collective along with stellar riffs from none other than guitar legend Carlos Santanawho has previously noted, “Calypso Rose is a goddess of música del Caribe: a person who offers her heart & changes people’s lives & destiny.”
Listen to “Watina” here: https://calypso.lnk.to/watina
While the name Calypso Rose will be forever associated with her country Trinidad and Tobago, the love story that has bound her to Belize for almost forty years is part of her music, her career and her life. With “Watina,” she pays homage to the Garifuna, a Caribbean people scarred by slavery, excluded from memory, and part of whose population now lives not only in the United States, but also on the coasts of four Central American countries: Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and thus Belize. “Watina” is a song full of devastating history, and contrasted by cheerfulness and celebration. Ivan Duran, Rose’s Belize-born longtime producer was also the “sound architect” for the late Andy Palacio, who co-founded and led the Belize-based band The Garifuna Collective until his untimely death in 2008. “Watina” was originally a local hit for The Garifuna Collective and, according to Duran, Calypso Rose was the only person who could recapture the frenzy and the impact of this song while respecting Palacio’s legacy. By recording and reimagining the song with the same musicians, she reaffirms her Belizean ties and once again exploits the contrast between the festive spirit and the social dimension of the music.
