Burna Boy made history at the 2024 Grammy Awards as the first Afro-fusion artist to perform on the prestigious stage.

Despite being predominantly associated with Afrobeats, Burna Boy has consistently referred to his music as Afro-fusion, distinguishing himself within the genre. His performance, characterized by energetic dancers and a backing band adorned in green, paid homage to his Nigerian heritage, with Burna Boy exuding confidence and cultural pride in a striking red ensemble.

During his electrifying set, Burna Boy seamlessly transitioned between hits like “City Boys” and “Sittin’ On Top of the World,” accompanied by guest appearances from R&B icon Brandy and rapper 21 Savage. Brandy’s smooth vocals and 21 Savage’s fiery verse added depth to the performance, with the latter marking his Grammy debut. Burna Boy’s prominence at the 2024 Grammys extends beyond his performance, as he leads the nominations for African artists with four nods including Best Global Music Album and Best African Music Performance for his acclaimed album “I Told Them…” and its hit single “City Boys.”
