I have learnt my lesson not to depend on man – Sonnie Badu

Renowned Ghanaian gospel singer, Sonnie Badu has asserted that he has learnt a lesson of not depending on his fellow man for any form of help, following several disappointments from people who promised to sponsor his recent concert.

It will be recalled that the ‘Baba’ hitmaker, despite having a successful concert on Saturday, December 9, 2023, shared some of the challenges he and his team faced ahead of the show.

According to him, even though the show was a success, he had problems with sponsorship and even had to sell his expensive Rolex watch at a cheap price to raise money for the show. Speaking during an interview on Okay FM, he mentioned that ahead of the concert, he reached out to some top brands and big men in the country to sponsor the show but they all disappointed him.

Citing an example, the popular singer stated that the Chief Executive Officer of Adonko and ABN, Dr. Kweku Oteng had promised to sponsor his concert but refused to pick up his calls when contacted.

“A lot of sponsors let me down, even Dr Kweku Oteng was not picking up my phone calls, he promised to sponsor, he promised to be a part of it but he didn’t pick up my phone calls. He disappointed me.

“I have honoured Dr Kweku Oteng more than any other person in Ghana, I even honoured him at the city capital in Georgia. He told me he would support me but he let me down,” he said.

However, after calling out the business mogul, the singer received trolls and backlash from some netizens who were not happy about his commnet. Following the public backlash, the multiple award-winning singer has rendered an unqualified apology to the CEO.

“Let me use my platform to apologize to Dr. Kweku Oteng for calling him out on Okay 101.7FM – for not sponsoring my concert, ‘Rhythms of Africa’. For those of you who don’t know: I remained loyal to him and honored him gracefully in Atlanta, Georgia. For my major concert in Atlanta, Dr. Oteng promised to support the project but came up short. For the recently-held concert in Ghana, I paid a courtesy call on him and once again, he pledged to support the project, only for him to disappoint me again – after placing so much trust in his words and hoping he would make amends for his earlier failed promise.

After my visit to him, I excitingly posted on my social media platforms about his willingness to support the project. I must admit that, it was extremely frustrating that an impression was created that Dr. Oteng had supported the successful concert that took place at the Grand Arena over the weekend and I felt the need to clear the air. Nonetheless, I apologize sincerely to Dr. Oteng for bringing this out in the public domain.”

However, Sonnie Badu made known that  he has learned a lesson not to depend on his felllow man but rather on God , attributing the success of ‘Rhythms of Africa’ to divine intervention.
