Note 6: A New Sound Of A Capella Music From Ghana

Note 6 is a 6-member male acapella vocal band hailing from Ghana, which has found multiple ways in creating unique harmonies using only the human voice. Note 6 is set to release their first studio EP in October, later in the year. The EP is expected to focus on their core composition strategies: motivational, gospel, patriotic and love songs.
As part of their singing strategy, Note 6 consistently incorporates six different musical notes using contemporary afro vocal jazz harmonies, basslines and beatboxing in their songs to create quite a unique style of a Capella. Note 6 current members consist Smyles Tenortey, Asante Okoto Edward, Ernest Somuah Wiafe and Yaw Oti Boateng, Addai Patrick and Harrison Peprah.
The groups’ repertoire is a mix of their own compositions and covers which has gained a lot of attention of music lovers in Ghana and around the world. They have worked and shared stages with top Ghanaian Artists including Trigmatic, Reynolds The Gentlemen among others including getting a recognition from Brian McKnight himself when they did a cover of his song Back at One. They have released songs like Nananom, Amazing Grace, Back at One (Cover) and Ayeyi Tunes.
In 2020, there were chosen as part of the top 3 groups to represent Ghana in Old Mutual’s Amazing Voices; a Pan-African music competition in Johannesburg, South Africa.
It is of no doubt that Note 6 is on a mission to push Ghanaian a Capella music to inspire the world.

Nii Menz describes how he received ‘Nea Ote Me Mu’ through a dream

Music comes to musicians and songwriters through different means, as some get their lyrics while in the bath house, period of fasting, driving or at prayer meetings, others get theirs through dreams.
Over the years, artistes have shared their intriguing stories of how they got inspiration to write their songs.
Interestingly, fast-rising gospel musician, Nii Menz, known in private life as Anderson Nii Kwei Mensah has revealed that his new song dubbed “Nea Ote Me Mu” is a dream come true, a song he received in a dream.
According to him, the song was revealed to him in a dream,” it was around 2am one dawn, I was deep asleep, but found myself singing in a dream, I immediately woke up, I liked the melody and began to write verses for the song in accordance with the title revealed to him.”
Nii Menz added that he was very happy after writing the two verses for the song and proceeded to the studio to record the song to fulfil God’s revelation to him.
Touching on the message, he said “the song simply means ‘He that is in me’, the bible makes one understands that He that lives in us is greater than what we see outside.”
“If you have God living in you there is nothing one cannot do, and going by the direction and guidance of God, one can reach higher heights,” he said.
The gospel musician charged christians not to underestimate the power they carry because God created man in His own image.
Nii Menz said, even though it was not easy to mobilise resources, he decided not to give up, but to ensure the gift from God did not go to waste.
He promised of good songs and hard work in the years ahead, adding that gospel music has what it takes to lift Ghana music.
The song which was produced by Zapp Mallet is available on all digital platforms and comes with a video that was directed and shot by Good Luck pictures.
