Note 6: A New Sound Of A Capella Music From Ghana

Published

on

Note 6 is a 6-member male acapella vocal band hailing from Ghana, which has found multiple ways in creating unique harmonies using only the human voice. Note 6 is set to release their first studio EP in October, later in the year. The EP is expected to focus on their core composition strategies: motivational, gospel, patriotic and love songs.

As part of their singing strategy, Note 6 consistently incorporates six different musical notes using contemporary afro vocal jazz harmonies, basslines and beatboxing in their songs to create quite a unique style of a Capella. Note 6 current members consist Smyles Tenortey, Asante Okoto Edward, Ernest Somuah Wiafe and Yaw Oti Boateng, Addai Patrick and Harrison Peprah.

The groups’ repertoire is a mix of their own compositions and covers which has gained a lot of attention of music lovers in Ghana and around the world. They have worked and shared stages with top Ghanaian Artists including Trigmatic, Reynolds The Gentlemen among others including getting a recognition from Brian McKnight himself when they did a cover of his song Back at One. They have released songs like Nananom, Amazing Grace, Back at One (Cover) and Ayeyi Tunes.

In 2020, there were chosen as part of the top 3 groups to represent Ghana in Old Mutual’s Amazing Voices; a Pan-African music competition in Johannesburg, South Africa.

It is of no doubt that Note 6 is on a mission to push Ghanaian a Capella music to inspire the world.

Emeli Sandé Unveils New Song and Music Video, ‘Brighter Days’

Published

on

Internationally-renowned British singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé returns with a brand-new song, the uplifting “Brighter Days,” and its accompanying video, available to stream and download now via Chrysalis Records.

Speaking of the new single, Emeli reveals: “‘Brighter Days’ is inspired by the truth that even in the darkest moments, there is always hope. We might have to dig deeper to feel it, but hope is always there. Staying anchored in hope and faith is our victory and defeat only comes when we lose sight of this power. ‘Brighter Days’ is an affirmation – it’s a reminder of our collective power to make a choice and create our reality.”

“The power of the collective mind is remarkable, and I believe that no matter the external circumstances forced upon us, we have dominion over the mind and spirit. Brighter days are coming. Stepping out of the darkness is within our control. Fear is not ours; pessimism does not belong to us; defeat is not our choice. We choose brighter days, and this song is the voice of hope, faith and love.”

“Brighter Days” is out everywhere now

Brighter Days” follows the singles Look What You’ve Done” and Family” – Emeli’s triumphant first tastes of fresh music in two years, introducing a new era, which she describes as “an ode to resilience, rebirth, and renewal”, as well as recent collaborations with UK rap and grime giants including Bugzy Malone’s ‘Welcome to the Hood’ and Ghetts’ ‘Sonya’, featured on his Mercury Prize-nominated record Conflict of Interest. Other collaborations that span Emeli’s career include Kendrick Lamar, Giggs, Loski, Wretch 32, Wiley, Jools Holland, Nile Rodgers and many more.

Last month saw the release of ‘Acoustic,’ featuring two new, stripped-back versions of “Look What You’ve Done” and “Family,” beautifully showcasing the emotional and honest songwriting she has become known for. ‘Acoustic’ arrived alongside a video for “Look What You’ve Done (Acoustic Version)”, which finds Emeli performing the song solo at the piano, where the self-produced song began to take shape.

Published

on

Perez Musik, the Blema Teasaa  hit maker is back with another beautiful song titled Hewale Lala.
‘Hewale lala’ which mean Song Of Strenght in English is the first Ga song off a 5 track gospel EP titled Delivered by Perez musik.

This single, just like the other songs off the EP is inspired by a series of life experiences and the ultimate realization that life is best lived when one totally submits to the Holy Spirit.

The beauty of the song is expressed in a creative use of the Ga language garnished with an english hook. The song is indeed soothing and inspiring. The sound is different and awakening. It is a “must have” on your gospel Playlist.

From the sound released on this single, worshipers and music listeners should prepare to be dragged into the presence of God because Perez Musik is surely carrying some fresh fire this year.

Perez Recounts in an Instagram post;
“One night, on my way to my studio after a very unexpected rough and tough morning. I started to wonder about the true purpose of life as I felt frustrated on every side. I wanted to give up but suddenly the Holy Spirit ministered this scripture in my heart- “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Isaiah 41:10
I immediately felt this song drop in my spirit. I began to sing the lyrics and melody with so much ease, I felt a positive shift in my physical, emotional and mental state.
It is my heart desire that this song will affirm your faith in Yahweh and restore faith if you have lost it.”

The other titles on the EP are Ayeyi Ndwom, Made for you, Giver of My Life and Tse Ofe(Almighty Father) .

Those doing Asakaa music shouldn’t stop but right now Afrobeats is what has America paying attention

Published

on

Michael ‘Emm’ Acheampong-Boateng, President of Highbridge the Label, has explained that it makes sense for African musicians do push the Afrobeats agenda into the US market, since that is what is hot at the moment.

Afrobeats is not new, but in the US, it is. For example, Pop Smoke made drill music with UK beats, that’s how he was introduced to the market. The plan before he died was to transition to more traditional music for people to enjoy. You saw that in his first album after he passed away. If you are a good businessman, the first thing to remember is that you are a business so you position yourself well in order to be successful. If there’s a market for Afrobeats in America and you’re looking into breaking into the market, then you need to come in with what they want and slowly transition to whatever you are looking to bring and see how the market reacts to that,” he said in an interview with Ameyaw TV.

Watch Full interview below:

Asked whether the Asaaka drill music from Ghana was making similar waves in the US, Emm said it wasn’t the case yet.

“I didn’t see it in the US. If I did, I saw it in the African community in the US. If there was an African party, then that’s where you would see it but if you move from the subset of that population, then it didn’t really travel. Afrobeats however, is traveling outside of the African community. So again, I don’t think rappers doing Asaaka should abandon it. But they should be aware that if they want to get a commercial appeal, they should lean towards Afrobeats. Because with rap, Americans speak English, so if they can’t understand what you’re saying, then it’s a little bit tricky.

Highbridge the Label is an American record label founded by A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Don Q, Quincy “QD” Acheampong and Sambou “Bubba” Camara in 2016, based in New York City.
