Although the music industry in Ghana is heavily dominated by males, there are a few young women, pulling their weight, and rubbing shoulders with their male counterparts.

One of those females is a young talent from the Sawla in the Northern Region, Zakia Kunge.

Zakia Kunge, known in showbiz circles as ZAKIA, is a singer, songwriter, and performer whose music is deeply  influenced by her rich Ghanaian ancestry.

As a young talent, ZAKIA navigated her way to the top by participating in the Vodafone Icons – Street Edition. After making it as a finalist, Zakia’s vocal ability and charming personality afforded her the opportunity to perform as a special guest at 4Syte TV’s End of Year Party; a musical series that showcases intimate virtual performances by Ghanaian artists.

While in lock down in 2020 due to the global pandemic, ZAKIA rediscovered her ‘PURPOSE’ and took the opportunity to write a lot of music which became an impressive body of work.

The  first single off the ‘PURPOSE’ EP has successfully cut across the shores of Ghana to gain airplay in the US, Russia as well as the UK.

As one of Ghana’s exciting new acts, ZAKIA’s main objective is to authenticate herself in the new crop of vibrant female singers that
are carving a path for themselves in the mostly male-dominated industry. With Ghanaian music on the global rise, expect to see and hear ZAKIA on stages and platforms worldwide for years to come.

You can stream ZAKIA’s music on all streaming platforms and connect with her on social media @ZakiaKunge.
